Just a quick one.
What is the impedance of the stock macintosh sub.

you need more power from a better amplifier before worrying about different speakers.

Sub questions have been answered a million times. Do a search and you'll find all the answers. I won't go into detail here as I personally have done it a dozen times or more.
First, a sub doesn't "take" an impedence input, it HAS an impedence.
The OEM sub is a 4ohm driver rated at 35wRMS which is around what the OEM amp outputs. The OEM amp is only rated to 4ohm so you will need to buy either a sub with a single 4ohm voice coil or a sub with dual 2 ohm voice coils. While that Kicker sub you have linked will technically work, it will sound like... well... sh1t. It won't be sensitive enough to be able to use the little power it will be fed from the amp and being a shallow mount sub, they all sound like sh1t anyway except for very high end shallow mounts... Which don't sound that great anyway.

Mods: (GT) HKS Panel Filter. The HKS I put in the MY10 is the same filter I took out of my MY05 GT. So yes, they do fit. Custom leather heel pad to minimise carpet wear in the drivers footwell. Slotted front rotors. (Sherpa) 14'' 6 Spoke mags, Chrome Gear Shift (sick!), Alloy Pedals (sicker!), new positive and negative battery terminals, Alpine cda-9827 H/U, JBL GT 6x9's boxed and mounted (sickest!), Kicker DS650.2 component speakers mounted in the footwells in flibreglass pods, Alpine MRP-F200 4 channel amp (4x40wRMS), Rebadged with hektik chrome eBay badges, STi stickers for more powaaaa, "leather" handbrake boot, recarpetted with grey/black car carpet from Bunnings, sick Clarke Rubber boot mat, polished and waxed.

If you have a McIntosh system, then your options are pretty limited, unless you replace everything at the same time.
The head unit and the amp under the passenger seat are a matched pair. You can't just connect other amps up to the head unit easily.
