Tyre

Postby brendans225 » Mon Jan 07, 2008 6:00 pm

Got a puncture in the brother's lib, and am up for a new tyre - i was told cos it was punctured on the shoulder of the tyre, i can't get it patched up as the patch would just pop out...........god damn farking screw :x

So i asked how much a new tyre would cost - for the RE050A that come on the 3.0RB .....$460

does this sound right? tyre size is 18/215/45 .......can anyone get it cheaper?

Cheers,
Brendan

Have you tried carbonblack.com.au? Supposed to source prices for tyres.

I haven't myself but if you want to be my guinea pig and see what sort of price you get that'd be great :D

Who did you take the tyre to?
You can't patch the sdewall, but different tyre installers have different points at which they will refuse to patch it. I know Stuckey Tyres in Melbourne certainly WILL do a repair on the shoulder, and say this is because they have far more experience than your common tyre outlets...

Also, Subaru Glen Waverly quoted me $425 for an RE050A installed, so it might be worth getting a quote from your Subaru dealer, I think they get a big volume discount from Bridgestone.

It's not overly expensive. I got a new set in June from a mate in the industry. They wholesale (incl GST) for $400 at tyre shops.

Subaru must get a volume discount at $425. I asked Docklands when buying mine but they didn't even bother giving me a price and said to go to a tyre place!

..........sorry to hear about the puncture.

Thanks for the for the info guys, just wasn't sure if i was getting ripped of or not - seems a price below 450 is reasonable?

i might take it to one more tyre place and see if it can be fixed (yea i know, i'm a tight ass  )

I got $406 from K-Mart but didn't get it done there as I wasn't confident with the guy running it. My mate at another place was only allowed to go to around $420 but he balanceed the them as well. If Subaru can fit them for $425 fitted I wouldn't go past that price - mind you you're only getting one tyre (if you take that option) so that may attract a higher cost.

id buy a secondhand replacement tyre with about the same k's as your other 3.

that way when you replace the lot you dont have one tyre older then the other.

Put the spare on and find a secondhand one as your spare.

If you where in melbourne i could have sold you my second hand RE050A for your spare.
