Pffttt... Who cares about being able to use the boot. It's all about the chase for added S.Quez!!! LOL
So it was more of a practicality based decision? Only reason I bring it up is, IMO 15's tend to be a bit "slower" than a 12" or 10" subs so being in a sealed enclosure helps tighten things up a bit. Might not get the fully tabouli low end doof but you get a better sounding sub in the end.
