What about on of those cosworth long motors? See them advertised for about 18k. Would have to be a good thing.
Kinda flush. Fitment is something. ADM as F*ck.

Yep I guess it may well be. Plus the fact I had surgery last week and I'm stuck at home bored shitless.

The cosworth long motors are ok but not ideal and for the cost you can get alot better. Cons:

- still semi open deck
- unsleeved
- use cosworth headgaskets which have failed a few times
- Cnc porting of the heads can be had better and cheaper locally
- you still need all the bolt ons. If you have a look at my build the 18k includes all bolt ons which would take your cosworth bill to over 23k with the same bolt ons and work.
- lack of domestic support. For a motor of this nature, you really would like to know and meet an greet the person who assembled the motor to get a feel for what they know ad say. You can't get this with a crate motor shipped from the states
- inability to customize anything to suit your specs. It's a fair amount of coin to throw into a build, and for me, not being able to decide what goes into that motor makes me feel like I'm buying a Kia.

So yeah I did think of it but definitely won't be going down this path

Is it possible to switch the dash from the facelift to the pre-facelift considering they're the same transmission ie auto-auto, manual-manual?

I was going to do the conversion myself. Not too hard at all on the mechanical side.

Electrical and wiring is a different story. Best to leave to an auto elec if you don't have much experience with car electronics etc. I'm going to attempt it myself if the conversion ever happens. Few trick wiring mods should sort it. You basically have to fool your auto ecu into thinking that its not in neutra (to give signal to your abs module), whilst wiring in the neutral switch from the back of the Manual clutch pedal to your ecu. Also need to rewire reverse sensor from harnesss to box.

If you would like more detail let me know and I'll put up what I know about

In terms of the dash, to be honest I don't know yet and don't know of anyone who has attempted it but the biggest drama will be getting all the gauges and dash instruments to work.

If you swap over engine, ecu, box, diff, wiring loom etc then the dash will be a bolt on but I don't really want to do that yet.

Mick, our cars are drive by wire.
I have been advised there is a throttle/load/gear calculation.
In my Ecutek tune I had the throttle position on gear changes adjusted.

Have you any ideas about how you will address this?

The tune after the conversion may be challenging.....think another poster mentioned something about this?

The dbw won't be affected I believe, as long as the tuner knows how to adjust for the throttle mapping changes it should be fine.

And of course after any major mod you should have your car tuned to suit.

The dramas continue

Ecu was delivered to the tuner. Plugged it in yesterday to tune it - still no signal.

Plugged a spare ecu in which was also unbricked at the same time as mine (i sent it there on someone's behalf) - same thing

Now appears to be a wiring\ electrical problem rather than the ecu - which may in fact have been the case the whole time and it was misdiagnosed as a bricked ecu

Having a few people look at it this afternoon including a subaru tech - to hopefully figure it out

Failing that i will have to tow the car home and do my own diagnosis using multimeter and trial and error.

Not happy at this point but oh well the joys of car ownership
