Handbrake light comes on at high revs

Postby ngn33r » Tue Jan 10, 2012 1:08 pm

Hey All...

I have a MY08 2.5i (obviously) silver manual!
I installed a short shifter when I got it (2009) and have had no problems at all!!!

I've noticed that this week, that when I'm in 1st gear and pedal down, after about 5kRPM+ the hand brake light comes on....
I don't feel the handbrake is physically coming on....but that doesn't say much.
Very WEIRD!!!
The handbrake is tight and is definitely all the way down, and not loose in any way...

Are is any common circuitry (GNDS) or anything in that nature that could be causing this to happen?
Has any1 ever experienced anything similar?

Any help will be MASSIVELY appreciated...THANKS

On an off chance, it may be worth testing your alternator also.

You said your handbrake is tight, maybe it's too tight? When you apply the handbrake normally, how far up do you have to pull before the light comes on? If it comes on as soon as you slightly pull on it during normal operation, maybe your high revs is making enough vibrations to cause it to activate :?

Edit: maybe you have a handbrake light that thinks its a shift light :D

All sorted...I figured it was the fluid....
there's a sensor, which when the car is tilted causes warning light to come on...

But new pads on, and fluid went back up....no need to flush fluid out.

Interesting enough, I also discovered when pushing the brakes down (all the way) theres a mechnical switch that 'clicks' and feels as though something is broken or not sitting right...Apparently this is a emergency breaking system feature.

Can anyone shed some light on the details of how it works...(just for fyi...)

Cheers all for your help!!!! again! :)
