camshaft drive belt replacement?

my 2005 liberty wagon has done 102,000k's, running well, time has run out to get it serviced by the book. the old man (ex mechanic 40 years) is paranoid that the timing belt will go any day now.
anyone got any advice on the 100k replacement recommendation, is it only a recommended replacement or should i not drive it long distance until it's done?

Dont be paranoid but get onto it sooner than later. Mine was due at 125k and im over that. Its more the bearings in the pulley and the tensioner that are likely to blow out before the belt.
