Fix rusty shone chips?

Postby bigBADbenny » Mon Dec 19, 2011 11:10 am

I have some touch up paint, but I need to fix a few rusty stone chips, all around 4mm in diameter, mostly on the roof.

Does anyone here have the appropriate technique?
I'd imagine I'd scrape out as much rust as possible without taking off any paint,
fill the chip with rust inhibitor,
prime then fill that,
sand back with wet and dry,
slightly over sanding onto good paint,
then paint over with the touch up paint, let dry, and rub back a couple of times.

Advice, experience and comments most welcome!

Also depends what paint colour, pearl white is next to impossible to touch up and get the pearl just right.

Something like black would be alot easier.

But overall, yes that sounds like the best way to go about it, and be sure to add a clear coat over the top of it when you are done to seal it again :)
Built not bought, it's a way of life.

This following link is similar to what you have planned, but also mentions using toothpicks to neatly dribble the paint into the chip and avoid overflow.

I got this plan. It's called 'Save Ass'. And the way it works is this - I slip outta one of these windows and I run like a bastard!
