He has a low and high boost setting. When he txt me he said 210 so maybe 191 was the low boost setting?

Expected mark was about 220 I think before the work went ahead.

Cant wait to take it for a drive :D But might stay out of it til he gets better brakes..... And new tyres.. haha.

I never thought I would say this, but I'm pretty shocked at how it's legal for a P plater to drive a car with that much power. I can't believe SA never even had a rule like the 125kw/tonne rule!
I just have to say make sure Taylor drives it carefully, I'm sure he will though :)

Well technically the MY98-00 were under the 125kw/tonne rule....JUST. I know because my brother had a MY98 and it was literally like 126.2kw/tonne I think from memory by factory standards, but he just would claim it was a MY99 which was about 124kw/tonne. Although he was a lucky person who somehow managed to get a WRX that was insanely faster than other stock WRX's, because his mates MY97 was a lot slower than his car. It's still one of the fastest cars I have been in that wasn't modified. It destroyed our parents 2000 Clubsport R8 with custom exhaust and tune that was doing about 280 at the fly.

I totally agree with the whole restricting P platers to a point, because I don't think they should be able to drive a car with more than 125kw/tonne. Even our libs come just under that rule and they are more than fast enough i think. But I think taking away turbos/v8's/SC is dumb. If they want to reduce the road toll further they need to implement driver training courses. Of course that costs a lot of money, and it's going to lose the governments votes rather than gain them any in elections, so it will never happen.

I wish we had rules like they do over in germany for obtaining your license.

Getting rather off topic of Renshaws thread but oh well, interesting stuff I guess.

come on Tony its 6+ year old "AUTO" with a medium sized turbo , but it went Ok even with the converter slipping but it feels stronger on the road than the number it layed down on a honest dyno/dyno user

In Melb you don't get in trouble if you are driving the car for work purposes. However the car must be registered under an ABN (if its a car that takes you to and from work) or your work requires you to drive the car (ie mechanic).

Haha that was a fun read :). I am on my way back to Adelaide. My cuz didn't mind about the wedding, her husband used to have a 800hp 34 v-spec 2, so they are very understanding of my reasons haha :p.

The car made 191 on paper as the torque converter kept slipping and pulling at the power on the dyno as you will see on the dyno graph, makes 210 on the road as Scott said the torque converter won't be slipping on the road. :D. High boost is 18psi, low is 14psi. Feels great to drive :). I have many photos that I will put up later today when I get back :).

Thanks Phat Man :D. You now earned a shout out in my mods list :).

Why wont the torque converter slip on the road?

A power run on a dyno is usually done in fourth gear (albeit could be third gear on the 5 speed auto as i dont know which gear has 1:1 drive ratio) - whichever it is, it is done in a set gear.

So effectively the build up from say 1500rpm on the dyno loads up the convertor alot differently to the road. The tractive effort on a dyno is also slightly different to the road, in that other variables which are usually present on the road (which may add or detract from actual engine and drivetrain load - for example a steep hill), are not there on the dyno.

I believe that this translates to a lower efficiency of the drivetrain on the dyno with an auto, and thus the weakest link in the chain will cave in slightly - in this case the convertor.

Comparable with this would be a slipping clutch on a manual transmission vehicle.

Usually dyno operators cannot simulate real-life load as accurately, so a clutch that does not slip on the dyno may in fact slip on the road \ track \ drag strip due to the loads exerted suddenly rather than gradually.

The reverse is true with a convertor because heat and load adversely affect their efficiency and thereby their ability to lock up and transfer torque through the planetery gears.

Thankyou for that :). What Scott was talking about sounding much like this.

Again I'm happy with how the car drives, feels great when boost is singing between 4,000 up to red line.
Couldn't say enough about Phat. Loves what he does. Even called me half way through my drive home to see how I was going and how the car felt on the open roads ect. Will be making the drive again when the brother joins the liberty GT family. :)

Did the hesitation ever go when we put the stock TMIC on before the turbo swap?? And how is it now?
