1. Requires a lot of other accessories to work.
2. Because it is more complex, it naturally causes more opportunity for problems, like leaks.
3. Can become heat soaked when used for long periods of hard driving and become terribly in-efficient.
Conclusion

If you have the room, and can mount an air to air exchanger, it is the best option, unless you are drag racing, or only looking for short stints of power. While many have been able to make air to water exchangers work on the race-track in a way that won’t cause them to heat-soak, they have only been able to by adding TONS of water cooling and capacity, and therefore a lot of weight. In the end its all in the install and the ultimate goals and uses of the car.

I've been talking with Michael for a while on this. And has fitted to many subi's & he says it runs great on track days. and when tuning the car. At the moment he says my core is to thick on my AVO top mount. so he highly recommend to water to air on mine.. the kits are quiet cheap aswell. see how we go, though. he said that i have plenty of room for the front radiator.

Let you know how it goes... he says it cuts intake temps by half...!!

How do you find the TD05? I'm thinking about a turbo in the future but I'm wanting low to mid range torque for street, don't want something that only really kicks in late.

there is like almost no turbo my full boost kicks in at 3100rpm... and stays strong all the way..

Yeah thats the one.. Michael had to modify the dump slightly but not alot...

Value for money its a great turbo...

I also purchased kando equal length headers(ceramic coated) to get the most out of it...

In my opinion, i mirror everyone else's opinion here. The original RS Turbo came out with a WAIC but i cant think of many that still have them, when pushing more power they're just not up to the task. Often the pump wears out fast and can be noisey.

You would have to take into consideration for the extra noise it will make, the extra weight and modifications to make it fit. I think you are wasting your time, the best possibe way to do it would be with a FMIC. If your going to do a WAIC you have to mod the crash bar anyway to fit the exchanger, so why not stick a FMIC there instead and get the piping made up?

FWIW, here are my actual observations of heat soak.
I had the EcuDatascan connected, and showing among other things, intake air temp. Ambient temp was around 20-21C, intake 23-24C steady cruising. Freeway stopped for a major accident, so lots of idling, bumper to bumper stuff for 20-30 mins. At its worst i saw intake temps around 80C....EIGHTY. Once we were moving well again it came down rapidly to around 30C, but the last few degrees drop took 15mins or so.
So I reckon a water->air would need a separate radiator to shed heat picked up from the intake intercooler, or - connect up your AC to to it somehow - put an AC evaporator in the airstream. Some Porsche 928s used to run a fuel line through a cooler fed by the AC system to reduce fuel temps.

That sensor is located before the intercooler, so the observations are unfortunately not worth much.

WAIC already DOES have a seperate radiator, mounted in front of the AC Condensor

pumps, relays, water, plumbing, etc
FMIC is no more effort and proven results with much less complexity.
add an extra override switch to the radiator or AC fans and you'll never heat-soak and FMIC core
