Still simple though, just run Macintosh audio aux in and nav screen video in to the console box. That's what i'm doing. Then use a media player for the source material.

Only catch is the player needs to be able to output NTSC, which my Nokias can :-)

Oh well that's just swell then isn't it 8)
What is this console box you speak of?
Are the two audio in and video in cables specific to the model? or can generic RCA cables be used?
iPhone would put out PAL for sure i'm guessing. I know my older iPod gives you the choice. Time to load it up with movies.

The console box is the compartment behind the cupholders. Underneath the 12v power socket is a 'blank' panel. This is where the factory cables mentioned below terminate.

There are 2 factory cables available.
1. Audio only aux in for the stereo, suits standard and McIntosh headunits $120
2. A/V in for the limited edition 2.5L cars that have the DVD playing headunit and sat nav, a picture of it is on the previous page. $190

Neither are worth the money IMO. Cable 1 above cost me less that $10 to make. I ran the cable back to the console box like the factory cable.
As soon as I finish writing this I'm out to fit an RCA panel mount female and wire that to the Video In on my Sat Nav screen.
I left room on the console blank so I could fit the RCA next to the 3.5mm Aux-In.

As far as I know the Video In was never offered by Subaru for the non 2.5 sat nav cars. Weird.

Love it!

Did you get the RCA and 3.5 jack from Jaycar?

yeah. The thickness of the blank meant the nut ring on the 3.5mm barely caught some of the thread though. Perhaps the cylindrical 3.5mm socket from Dick Smith may be an alternative.

Went to a Subaru dealership to hopefully get the AUX cable installed. Long story short, they put the wrong one in. Then they kindly offered $190 + $210 to fit the thing.

Scott, do you have a solution for 'cable 2' which wont cost me an arm and a leg just for a bit of wire?

Are you able to share how you made the cable for solution 1 Scott?

sure thing, away til tomorrow though so will have to wait a bit. It's all straight forward except wiring to the pins on the stereo.

Cheers Scott, I'd rather spend the $120 you pay at the dealership for the cable on other mods.

With that orientation the pin numbering is as follows,
4321
8765

1. Left Audio
2. Right Audio
5. Audio Ground
6. Aux-In Enable (Ground this pin to chassis. I used a screw on the back of the headunit. Allows Aux button to function)

On my McIntosh the connector was upside down.

For the Video in on the screen, my Sat Nav has an RCA input.
To have screen working with the handbrake off you need to cut a wire going to the screen (see below) and ground the end of the wire that goes to the screen plug, not the end that goes to the handbrake.
Locating the correct wire - On the rear of the sat nav are 2 rectangular connectors. You want the smaller one that can hold 16 pins. The other one is 18 pins.
The 4th wire from one end will be grey. This is the bad boy. Cut this and ground it to the chassis.

Just for info - The square connector next to the RCA socket is the rear camera in.

*All info given in good faith but do at your own risk.

I think we have some cross info here :)

The connector on the MY08 SatNav Kenwood stereo is completely different than what is in the 3.0.

The MY08 Kenwood SatNav cable is a 24-pin.

Still looks to be a grey wire there, with the far right purple one laying over it.
Unplug it from the screen, grab a multimeter, and check that pin for a short to earth when the handbrake is on, and open circuit when the handbrake is off.

Does that version screen have the RCA input ?
The video-in may actually be on the back of the DVD playing H/U instead.

Well your link has all the 2.5 folk could ask for. Just a matter of wiring up what you need/want.
