Mcintosh illumination stuck on

Postby Kekotic » Sun Nov 06, 2011 12:54 pm

Hey guys just noticed my Mcintosh is staying illuminated when the car is off and even locked, would anyone know which fuse is associated with that?

The ILLUM fuse seemed fine, only thing that seems to be playing up is the Mcintosh. It seems to be staying powered on when the car is locked because I was able to eject a CD with the car off, which I'm guessing you normally cannot do that. No text or anything displays on the unit, but the red back lighting of the Mcintosh stays on.

Does that mean my BIU is stuffed? I already have the issue of my dome light staying on permanently which is also the BIU, so is this just another part of the BIU failing?

I'll just find an auto electrician that can fix the BIU, been on my to-do list for far too long anyway.

Ejecting a CD when the car is off is normal as I do it all the time when cleaning my car, no idea why the mac is staying on though..

Okay then well it's just the illumination staying on and not the mcintosh itself. If I turn on the parkers/headlights to turn on all the dash illumination, then switch it off, the mcintosh loses illumination for about half a second and then it turns back on. So something to do with the BIU I guess, damned thing. All because of one of those LED strips on the door and it's cable got stretched while I was getting my windows tinted because the tinter guy has to remove the door trim a bit, which stretched the cable making it spark a little as it went on and off for about 10 seconds before I noticed it.

i had the same problem with my double din staying on when the car was off. i had to take the battery off everytime i turned the car off before i figured it out. mine ended up being that the power lead and the signal wire was touching at my amp which got knocked by my sub in "gentle cornering". this resulted in the signal wire making the din think the car was always on. try looking for something similar i.e a wire touching another wire thats connected to the battery
Apparently i've never been on live television before

Mate you might be on to something here, I was vacuuming my interior the day it happened and scrubbing some stuff off the carpet near the amp and I moved the passenger seat quite a few times. I was thinking about this at work today that maybe somehow the amp got knocked. Will go take a look.

Thanks.

Hmmmm got my hopes up a bit, looked at the amp and everything looks fine.
Will probably take the seat out on the weekend so I can get a better look, but in that section everything seems A-OK. Not really sure what other sections of the car I can look at to find the wire that gets illumination / power to the Mcintosh.

Thanks anyways.

Tried hitting things in all sorts of places, tried pulling on the amp cables and twisting them and moving them about. Nothing :(

Back to thinking it's the BIU I guess. Anyone know any really good auto electricians in Eastern suburbs Melb?

Well I looked at the MY07 workshop manual wiring for the sound system the other day, and that was confusing enough trying to figure out what wire might be causing the problem. Never done anything with audio in my life in a car, so I know nothing about any of that stuff.

If you want to look over the manual yourself and tell me what it could be, be my guest! :P
