Bridgestone RE002

Does anyone know if the Bridgestone RE002 tyres are noisy? I have Kumho KU36 on my 3RB and don't want tyres that noisy again. Or has anyone had S001? Any advice would be appreciated.

Not too sure how noisy they are but what do you want to use the tyres for?

My mate can hear me coming down the road on a set of re070. But even on stock suspention youll they are amazing. I dont think re002 will be as noisy coz the tred pattern isnt as aggresive

I want to use them for normal driving but I like driving fast through the hills, so I want good cornering but the KU36's drive me crazy on a long trip.
The other alternative is S001 which will be quiet but I don't think they will be quite as good in dry grip. S001 will cost $349 each so I wouldn't spend more than that.

How about Yokohama Advan AVS V550? They're designed to run quiet and offer sporty grip.

Have never tried 'em and don't know how much they cost, just offering up options.

Ku36 are noisy, not as bad as 070's though.

From all reports RE002's are just as good as RE001's which are near on RE050a's....and 050a's are a fantastic tyre for comfortable quiet mountain runs :p

Thanks for your help everyone. I managed to get a set of RE002's quite cheap, because Bridgestone made a mistake but stuck to the deal, which is good. To me they look too wide for the rim though, I don't really like it. I'll see how they go, but if I don't warm to them I'll sell them and get RE050A's from Tire Rack.

what do you mean by too wide for the rim? Can you post some pictures and details of wheel size and tyre size?

smythie, it's a 3.0RB with wheels the same as yours, or the same as in your photo. I had 225 Kumho KU36s before, and the width didn't look much different to the RE050As that were on before, but these are considerably wider and to me anyway, they don't look right. Sorry, I don't know how to add a photo.

The RE002s are 225/45 18. The wheels are standard spec B 18 x 7.

I think they would be good on 7.5" or 8" rims. I was a bit worried about the width on my 7" rims because if the tyres are too wide for the rims then you get too much sidewall movement which means less grip, so you are actually better off with narrower tyres. They also won't wear evenly if they are too big. 7" may be a tad too narrow, but I'm not sure yet.

I have only had them since Friday night, and haven't done a lot of driving on them yet, but this is what I think so far.
They are quiet and smooth, not like the KU36's. They squeal a bit when the car starts sliding, the KU36's didn't do that but I can't remember if the RE050A's squealed at all. They feel good, you can tell when the car is going to start sliding fairly easily.

They don't seem to have quite as much grip as the RE050A's. I went around a corner, basically turning right at thetraffic lights where it isn't quite 90 deg, more like 80 deg maybe, and I can normally do this corner at 60 - 65 without slowing down, but on the RE002's the car was just starting to slide. I had to travel out to the north, and there is a roundabout that I used to go around a lot which has a very large diameter, so you can get the car turning and speed up very gradually to the point where the car is sliding and you can't go any faster. I have used this before as a "test track" to compare the RE050A's with the KU36's. With those tyres, the max speed was about 66, but today with the RE002's it was 63. Now it isn't a controlled test, it is nearly a year since I had the RE050A's and maybe the road surface is a bit different, maybe the temperature is different, but it seems the RE002's are a bit slower. But that could be because they are too wide for my rims and they are rolling over a bit. Anyway, 3km/hr isn't a huge difference. I think they are a bit harder so should last longer. They have a 220 wear rating whereas the RE050A's have a 180 wear rating. And they are considerably cheaper.

Does anyone else have any comments on them?
