Revs bogging down on take off (6MT)

Postby calis » Sat Oct 29, 2011 1:34 pm

Hi Guys,

Does anyone else experience revs blogging down when taking off in 1st gear?
when I go to take off for normal start even if enough revs are availible it drops down to almost below usable and then it gets going.
If its a hill then I gotta be extra careful.

I've noticed this more now with the new HD clutch since yesterday and this morning while I let the car warm up for a minute out of gear it was doing it each time I blapped the throttle a little.
Revs would hit about 2k when drop slightly then up they would go, similar feeling to a motor missing.
But if I booted the throttle fully it was ok. It reved out no problem.

When in gear the rev drop does cause a slight shudder similar to when the clutch was toasted.

It almost seems its an issue with the drive by wire on the throttle?????

Revs bogging down on take off (6MT)

Might just take a few days to get used to the new clutch, higher clamping pressure and better friction plates will alter how you drive compared to stock clutch.

If you are really concerned you could get someone to adjust the electric tb setting although I don't think that is the issue

anti stall bullshit.

Buy tactrix cable, change throttle maps and remove anti stall crap.

true Zorro there will be some adjustment time but I can back my own driving skills on this one. 8)
I can clearly tell the difference between a good take off and one that is hampered by the bog down.

kiks I think you may be right.

Use more revs.

They love a good dump.

as I said previoulsy more revs doesnt necessarily really help.
sure I can dump it but that proves/fixes nothing.

what Im talking about is general drivability for normal take off/stop start.

its like it just loses all bottom end torque.

maybe I need driving lesson... or maybe I should talk with Mark Webber he seems to have the same problem with his starts.

ok so this may sound crazy but I took the car for a run today to try and get to the bottom of this thing.

thought to myself just before I drove out "i'll just turn off the air conditioner and put the windows down"....

...and low and behold, the problem is gone I kid you not.

"I let the car warm up for a minute out of gear it was doing it each time I blapped the throttle a little.
Revs would hit about 2k when drop slightly then up they would go, similar feeling to a motor missing."

Totally gone now.

Took it around the block. No problems. Take offs where great she drove like a dream.
Didnt have time to try with the aircon on so lets see in the morning.

any thoughts?? lol other then drive with the aircon OFF

Is it fine after warmed up or fine without A/C on? I dont give my car anything until its warmed up, so I may not be able to replicate the problem.

Hi Farugah, I havent been able to drive the car much since but this morning I sat and warmed her up for a good time and there was no issues.
Turned the AC on and still no issues.

So seems ok but will keep an eye on it as it still doesnt feel 100%

Anyone ever noticed, that if you stall it at the lights...

then quickly restart the car, and try to floor it to make up for lost time... there is a HUGE power loss until you change into 2nd...

almost like a warm-up procedure that disabled the vct/vvt from activating until the car is "fully started for at least a few 5 seconds"

?

Calis, iv had the same problem! I too thought it might have been to do with worn down parts but all seems fairly normal and in reasonable condition.
Some days shell start fine, but the next she spits the dummy and just lets the revs drop significantly.
I havnt put it down to my driving style because of the fact that somedays its fine and others its not.
My gut feel is that its something to do with the stock ecu configuration and those "warm up times" just mentioned, but I dont have any proof of this

I will make sure the A/C is off next time I drive and try it out, but any other pointers that might fix it?

Try to do a complete clean to the entire air intake system and try to check your PCV also.

Does this happen first start in the mornings? Do you leave your car outside or undercover? Or does it happen at each start?

It has happened a few times to me this week on the Celica (been rather cold in Perth these past few days), so now after (finally) starting, I let it idle for a minute before starting off.
