Refinishing GTB rims

Postby SubMeister » Fri Nov 04, 2011 8:14 pm

Am eyeing a MY07 GTB sedan that has 18" rims in what looks like a chrome-ish charcoal finish.

It doesn't float my boat as it's neither here nor there (black or silver that is) Sorry no offence meant to those who have them.

Question - how much does it cost to refinish the rims in silver? what's the recommended method, e.g. baking, spraying? and where can I go in Melbourne that'll do a decent job?

Thanks in advance...

You can still purchase the stock MY07-09 GT.B rims from Wheelpower in Sydney for $125 each, probably cheaper than getting them refinished or whatever you are thinking. Also you would never be able to get the same sort of colour as the stock ones, as they are a sort of pearlescent colour.

Oh and they are brand new...basically. Taken off cars that had delivery km's on them to be converted to Tuned by STI.

Refinishing GTB rims

I think that's the whole point, he doesn't like the original colour and wants to get them redone.

Powder coating will cost about $100 per wheel, respray a little less for 4 wheels

Oh sorry my mistake, I read it as the previous owner had already had them powdercoated and he wanted to get them back to the silver colour of stock. Dunno what he's on about thinking they aren't a silver colour though! Definitely not a charcoal

Thanks for the comments guys, you're both kinda right.

Here's a car I was eyeing:

http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?eapi=2&__Ntk=CarAll&Cr=6&__Ntt=GT&R=11065012&__Qpb=1&seot=1&silo=Stock&__Ns=pCar_Odometer_Single|0||pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_PriceSort_Decimal|0&trecs=40&__D=GT&__sid=13379231DF50&num=15&__Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial&vertical=Car&__N=1247%201252%201282%204294963801%204294963605%20444%20750%201648%20243%201216%20834%201216&__Nne=20&base=834%201216&__Dx=mode%20matchany

The wheels look Subaru originals and are like a dark grey but with this pearlescent shine coming through. Definitely not a straight silver.

So Chaotic you did answer my question - those wheels on that ebay link are exactly what I want - it's just too bad another buyer beat me to it!!! :angry2:

It's the Subaru gods saying I shouldn't compromise and just hold out a bit longer for a manual GTB wagon

Anyway will keep this option up my sleeve, so thanks for the tip.

The rims are still for sale. The listing says they have more than 10 wheels currently.

I'm pretty sure that the rims on the ebay link are the same as the ones on the GT-B you were looking at. Under different light conditions they can look lighter/darker.

The paint from factory is a shadow chrome finish.

I meant someone beat me to buying the car, not the rims.

The rims are still for sale. The listing says they have more than 10 wheels currently.
