Hi all,

Thought i would come over and introduce myself as im on the look out for an 07-08 Liberty Gt/Sti. Im currently driving a Clio Sport that ill be holding onto as this car will be for the missus and unfortunately will have to be an auto . Had a quick drive of an 07 Sti at a dealer yesterday and while the performance was adequate it was not what i was expecting. I have a few questions that you can hopefully help me out with.

- With the 3 driving modes i noticed in 'i' mode power was really killed off, how exactly do subaru do this? is the boost just turned down for each setting
- In S# mode the power was much better but not what i was expecting, what are the basic mods that can be done to get a bit more grunt i assume the normal dump pipe/exhaust/tune would give a noticeable increase? but bear in mind its for the missus so are you able to keep the stock mufflers to keep noise down?
- its going to be the missus daily, she currently drives an 01 astra and gets about 9L/100km what is the fuel consumption like for GT/Sti?

Im sure ill have a few more questions along the way, thanks for looking and hopefully ill have a liberty very soon

dump pipe and tune would be good mods and keeping the stock look and sounds levels to a minimum.

Apparently the different SI modes change the virtual ramp angle of the electronic throttle, e.g. if you're cruising in S mode at 30% throttle, and change to S# mode the throttle position immediately changes to maybe 50%. It certainly feels that way
I'm rather happy to use "corolla mode" around our local 40Kmph speed bump saturated zones.

I've had my manual GT-B for less than a week - the average reads 11.8L/100km but can drop to below 8L/100km, on cruise, on a flat freeway.
Interested to see if I can drop the average once I stop the occasional fanging it

There appears to be more autos for sale than manuals at any given moment so good luck with the search!

Good luck for your search I looked for about 6 - 8 months for my one... but it was well worth it... while i was looking i test drove a few and changed my mind a couple of times looked at getting a 06 wrx sti and r34 gtr but i choose the liberty in the end of day.. i made the right choice.. =] Its a great car to drive daily! Don't rush in and buy one just because you cant wait choose the right one!

6-8 months is a long time searching Penga! funny you mention that when you were looking there were more autos then manuals, at the moment its the other way around, there is only 1 sti auto in syd that i test drove and i wasnt too happy with the condition, funnly enough the dealer has dropped the price 2k since i last saw it. There looks to be a good condition white one in Qld but thats just too far for me to travel just to inspect a car.... Ill just have to wait for the right one to pop up in NSW/ACT

SI drive just limits throttle response, not boost.

A full turbo back exhaust will give much better throttle response down low, but without a tune you will be running rich so forget about fuel consumption. A tune will not only improve the overall drive, but will also improve your fuel consumption.

You will surprised how much little added noise some of JAP branded exhaust systems generate, speak to Phat GT (vendor on here) if your seriously about getting one.

My car is currently tuned with a full exhaust and few other bits, it will go as low as 8l/100 on the freeway right up to 14-15l/100 around the city.

well the hunt is still on, seems auto Sti's are like hens teeth...

Just another question. i have seen quite a few liberties advertised that have mentioned that they have had the motor replaced by Subaru, further investigation has revealed that a limited number of engines of the 2.5T in the liberties has a big end bearing fault that was supposed to be fixed by subaru, can anyone point me to a doco or recall notice of which models/year or even range of engine numbers that were affected? are there any signs i should look for to show the engine in the car im looking at might have this problem, how can i know it wasnt one of the one withthe dodgy big end bearing?
