Hi Guys,

First post - I can confirm a few things here:

ADM Auto EJ20T's run twin scroll Vf38 (as previously advised)

ADM Manual EJ20T's run twin scroll TD04HLA also twin scroll

Replacement turbos no such thing - various twin scrolls can be made to fit including GtPumps GTPS02Ts (these are a replacement twin scroll for the vf36\vf37 sti's) - mods to fit this would be entire headers, up pipe and new dump.

BBK make a similar turbo to the GTPS02TS albeit with a billet wheel - both would require the replacement of headers which GTpumps manufacture and sell (gtpumps.com,au)

I would be keen to hear about the vf34 cartridge in a vf38 - i assume from the flow characteristics of the two that full boost may arrive a little later although give you much higher flow potential in the upper rev range.

In terms of replacing with a vf30 \ vf34 single scroll as someone suggested, probably not my cup of tea - what makes the auto liberty kick is peak torque at 2500rpm. Ive had mine tuned by pulse, running 3" TBE, cell cat, twin magnaflow mufflers, walbro 500hp in tank pump and its making 172kw atw with peak torque at 2500rpm. Drives like a dream and a single scroll would ruin the beauty of having strong torque so low in the rev range, My 2c

Depends who you speak to - im fairly sure the vf36/37 up pipe flange is slightly different to the auto GT vf38 flange - keeping in mind the BBK twin scroll is a replacement for the vf36/37.

I will be finding out fairly soon how true this is - worse case ill be knocking up a flange for the up pipe to suit BBK flange.

ok so its not an overly big issue if its only requires a new flange to be made up. :D sorted that one out. lol

the vf 36 and td04/vf38 up pipes flanges are different on the turbo sid eof the up-pipe and the vf38 up-pipes are smaller in diameter compared to the vf36 ones same with the headers. not much point keeping stock headers and up pipe and adding a larger turbo as you it will not flow as well with the smaller piping

I can tell, show you all the details on the VF34 cartridge in the VF38 mid december once my new engine is fitted and tuned by MSR.

Fair enough, maybe I will go new headers and uppipe then.

Thanks dan.

What I'm getting at is the standard headers dont necessarily have to be replaced in full. The flange can be changed

This is of course assuming the aftermarket bbk / gtpumps twin scrolls are only made for a vf36 flange. If not (and we finf out they are direct replacement for the vf38) then potentially they can mate to stock up pipe.

Yes you could just change the flange but not much point. the vf38 flange is different whereas the sti style twinscrolls are mostly the same flange design. Guy in uk kept his headers, and modified his standard up pipe with a vf36 up pipe to give him the correct setup. trial and error of getting a custom up pipe made up cost him a pretty penny whereas the larger bolt on option is less hassle and better flowing. Looking back i should have got some Tomei TS headers and up pipe while i was at it! I'll have dyno day on 18th so be interesting to see what power she puts down

Sounda good. I was thinking of modifying the oem uppipe as above although forthe convenience and flow potential I reed up ordering a set of aftermarket manifold for the twin scroll
