OK,

got some quotes from Kris. Very good I might add.
However, the engine builders quote is way over anything ever imagined.
I have been quoted $9000 there about's to rebuild my engine with a new short block. (that's the short block included)
Does anyone else think that is absolutely outrageous?
I mean I also got Kris to quote me a full engine and its way less than half!

Help is an understatement.

Absolutely question it, where did they make that quote up from? ask for an itemized list of everything within that quote. Parts and associated labour. yep can vouch for Kris.

PM sent.

$9000 sounds over the top, what short block were they intending on using?

For about 9k I would expect the following:

Forged pistons
Forged rods
Head studs
Head bolts
Rehoned block to suit new pistons
Pistons rings
Main and big end bearings
Multilayer metal head gasket
Full porting of heads and head rebuild with new valves, springs, retainers etc.
Cams

With the above set up your will looking at a solid 250-300kw engine with the right turbo set up using your existing block.

Agreed if your not getting something like what senator has listed for that money give or take , I would put the car on a trailer and get the f#ck out of there. As mentioned speak to phat or micheal at MSR. MSR would be one stop for build and tune.

Car has been towed. now sits at my house.

I will be talking to MSR today. The question is:

1. Do I rebuild?
2. Do I replace engine?
3. Do I go EJ257?
4. Do I go EJ207?

Just looking at ball park figures, Replacement engine looks best. Having said that, I have a brand new rebuilt VF38 bored out with VF34 cartridge strapped to my blown motor. So if I do replace motor Ill have bits up for sale...

What to do.

A long bock replacement will be a lot cheaper than a complete rebuild, STI long blocks are fitted with forged pistons so with your upgraded turbo you will produce some additional power.

Is the car just a daily??? Or will you be tracking it???

If you plan to track the car, rebuild with full forged internals would be the way to go….. but of course that may lead to bigger turbo, fuel system upgrade (pump regulator & injectors) and fmic…….

You will need to factor in a tune whichever way you go

Easy…………… EJ207 block replacement and a tune…… just to ensure things are running safely with the upgraded turbo.

Also consider timing belt, water pump, timing belt bearing & tensioner and spark plugs.
