What type of fuel to use?

I have looked for a while now, but it must be me, as i cant find any info...

but was wondering what fuel is best to use for us 3.0 boys, 95 or 98?

BP Ultimate 98 octane. From busted corolla to prestige lamborghini.

Until Australia has a decent 100 octane fuel, 98's the go. BP has the most consistent quality.

I don't know but they some times say on the fuel door in the inside :/
my dads forester ran on 95 and it probs says in the mannual
I put in 91 (standard) but my mate shouted me a tank of fuel ($70ish ) for picking him up from the airport and he put in 98 :/ i didnt complain
But i have a 4cyl

BP Ultimate.

I used it for years in my old Leggy RS, and tried Optimax and Vortex a few times but the car ran like crap in comparison so I always went back to Ultimate. Have never tried anything other than Ultimate in the Outback, but given how good it's been I see no reason to change. The tiny difference in price is not worth the f**k around factor.

For an extra $5-10 per tank with the extra distance you get and cleaner emissions, better performance etc I think it's worth it.

I remember when I was down at Jindabyne and did the run out to Kancobahn (excuse spelling) and had to fill up my MY05 Lib GT with 95 (which was tuned for 98 from the factory) because that's all they had. The car ran sooooo much richer, admittedly, I was giving it quite a bit of stick, but the economy was shot to sh*t and you could tell the car didn't run as well.

In my MY10 GT, 95 octane is recommended, I used one or two tanks of the stuff and then started using 98, with 98 I get about 30 or 40kms more.

I have run 95 and 98 octane fuels in my Sherpa as well and the difference is even more noticeable.

Run 98, nothing less.

I've always run ultimate in my cars and never had issues. Optimal when it was out was notorious for killing bike engines, lawn mowers and being pretty inconsistant in cars, even the vmax power was rubbish.

There is no harm in running a stock car on 91 as the ecu will have a low octane table to suit. Most tuners should accommodate this too although it doesn't hurt to ask just to be sure.

I found Melbourne to be pretty inconsistent with 98 for some reason

Pretty much as the majority has said BP Ultimate 98 is the go or Shell VMax if there are no BP's around

I should of mentioned caltex 98 is as close as you can to same blend as bp ultimate, ONLY in caltex service stations not woolworths/Safeway outlets

Most of the people replying have 4 cylinder engines, so it's not applicable to the 3.0R.

I don't notice much difference between 95 and 98 in mine at all, so it usually gets 95.

I Run 98 of whatever blend I can find, in the country we arent as lucky to have much choice.
Also what is a Sherpa? all i could find was a Leyland Sherpa and a Kawasaki Bike.

i run Shell V-Power 98 only because i get the coles dockets for 4/l off cents off. yes it only saves me a few $ but i've found shell petrol pretty reliable. i ran 98 in my lancer (had it tuned to 98) and the difference in power delivery between E10 and 98 was astonishing. i can only assume the difference between 95 and 98 in these cars will not be as great (i have only filled my subi up twice and have used 98 both times) but i will probably always run 98 just to keep it clean. the cost of the 98 doesn't phase me as work has given me a car to run around in so the subi is really only a weekend car.
