scraping/screetching with slotted discs and brembos

Postby kennysti » Fri Sep 30, 2011 6:57 pm

I did a search and came up with a few topics but not quite what my issue appears to be.
I often (meaning at least once a day) get a sound coming from my rotors (im assuming) that is a loud screetch, kinda like you get from an old tap when the water is running.
The sound goes away the moment I apply the brakes and sometimes returns instantly as I lift off the pedal. Initially It was only happening when I was rolling slowly but I had it happening up to 70km/h yesterday and had no idea why.
Car was in for a service about 2 months ago and nothing seemed wrong other than the pads were getting low and needed changing at the next service. The car is an 07 TBSTI so typical brembo brakes but the front discs have been replaced with slotted ones, not sure which brand, the previous owner did it, no other suspension or brake mods.
I can tell the difference between the usual squeaky brakes and the sound as the squeak only happens when I apply the brakes and it's much higher pitched, there is no shuddering or other strange behavior so far under hard and soft braking, just this odd noise I can't diagnose.

Help from you clever members would be much appreciated :)
Thanks
Jacob

Sounds like your on the boarderline of being down to the wear indicators on the pads. ;)

Change your pads.
