Exhaust system/tune options

Postby JDGT05 » Fri Sep 30, 2011 12:13 am

Hey all,

Currently driving a 2005 Liberty GT
Looking at doing some upgrades over the next month or so, have been looking at getting a TBE, tune and new air filter.

Can anyone give me some recommendations with what there running at the moment, what kind of power gains to expect, and how much it would cost me? looking too spend around 2500 to begin with.

Also someone point me in the right direction if I'm looking at buying the wrong shit all together? If there's something else I should be looking at for the same money please chip your info in!

Also since I'm in WA if anyone from perth wants to recommend a particular place where I can get all this done, that would be much appreciated!

Cheers
Now driving the mighty 86 :)

Id look at getting a dump pipe and HKS panel filter from Phat and the cat back and mufflers from TCP. Upgrade your intercooler also and then get a tune.

Phat dump and panel filter approx $1000
TCP catback approx $1000
Hyperflow intercooler approx $850
Tune approx $700

Ive just blown your budget by $1000.

Thats a basic power upgrade. It all really depends on what your after.

With that lot and a tune, you should see approx 150kw atw. Stock is approx 120kw atw.

How much did you end up spending on all that if you don't mind me asking?

Just remember you get what you pay for.

A good tune (From a good tuner) in Sydney these days will set you back the best part of $1100.00.

Would suggest getting in contact with Phat GT to get a HKS Panel Filter (Suspect that will be all you need).

Exhausts always come down to personal taste. I love the sound of Japanese exhausts but they will not be the cheapest option.

Replacement TMIC is also a good option... HKS make the biggest & the best for the EJ20T Liberty's but again, not the cheapest option.

With all the above stuff, in an auto I would expect a realistic figure of approx 145 - 150 ATW KW's... Manuals will obviously be more then that.

Thanks mate, that good info? Could I assume it's from experience and what you have on your car? Or had on a previous one?

Tune prices vary greatly between states. You can get a tune by a highly respected workshop here for the $800 mark.

+1 for what Mark said, prices varies heaps,
HKS dump ($700 off a dude on here)
X Force Cat back $800 (got it at store cost)
Hypeflow TMIC $850
K&N intake $160 (off a dude on here)
ECUTEK type 3 $1600

So around $3,500, I did mine like this...

But you don't need to do your mods all at once, a few people have told me I'm dumb for doing all my mods so close to one another.

Well they would be the dumb ones IMO. Its preferrable if you do all your mods at once as you only need to get one tune and not have to go back and pay for a retune after mods at different stages.

Thankyou :D. I tried to explain that to them, as I saved the $$$ for 4-5 months after I got my Lib so that I could do all of my performance mods around the same time. The non performance ones, ie grills, lips, wheels, tint ect you can do when ever you feel like it as they don't need tuning ect.

Sorry to go a little off topic with your mods list :).
