New sub.

Postby mihai » Tue Sep 20, 2011 11:44 pm

Ended up picking up a new sub and box the other day. Got it at a BARGAIN price, so I'm not complaining.

Box didn't look as good as I had imagined, however a few coats of Gloss Black spray paint fixed that. Still need to cover up the screw holes, but thats a job for tomorrow.

Overall very happy with the sub. Much better than the Alpine 12" Type R I had before (although don't get me wrong, that was a good sub in itself). Its a bit louder down low and its nice and balanced across the frequency range. I found the Type R to be quite boomy down low and not quite as loud up higher in the freq range, although this could have been to the fact that it was in a ported box probably tuned to a low frequency.

Anyway, enough about the sub, here it is, a JL Audio 12W7v3.

At this stage, the sub box isn't completely finished. I may put another coat of black on the box, still undecided. But eitherway I will be covering up the screw holes. Just need to find time to glue the covers in.

Nice sub!!! Very nice sub!!! My personal preference in the JL range is the 12W6, it's more of an allrounder than the W7's, but the 12W7 does have it's place when you are in the mood for some bone crushing subbass :D

That they do, they also fit in the boot around the sub :D

As big as it may be, it doesn't quite take up the whole boot. LOL

Havn't tried. But with the boot liner, crap? I'd probably have to remove the box (which is a pretty easy job) and then access the spare tyre. But thats the sacrifice I make. My mate had a box that took up the whole boot, but he could still get the spare tyre out...eventually.

Suprisingly the rear mirror is quite stable. Its the drivers and passenger side mirrors that shake like crazy! Although the right song does send the rear mirror into a frenzy! haha.

At the moment I'm running a PDX1.1000. I don't think I'll be changing anything anytime soon, quite happy with the setup at the moment. Especially since I have most of my boot space and both amps are hidden away under drivers and pass seats :D

Gotta love stealth installs (minus the massive box in the boot)

I ended up taking the Vibe Space8 out yesterday, now i just left the grill there to give the illusion that I have a 8" sub providing a crazy amount of bass!

I'll post a pic of my old sub, my mates new sub and my new sub all in my boot later.

I'm very jelous, I love JL Subs, only issue is the rubber surrounds on them don't lend much to durability. Good size box for the purpose though, ever thought of fiberglassing a box along the back wall? You would get half your boot back and it's not that hard to do, just time consumeing. Unfortunately for me I have a family so I had to become a little bit more creative with my install...
