Latest mods... CV Joints, shafts and wheel bearings replaced. Had to drive to work this morning (Penrith to Randwick approx 65kms) One of the bearings seized just as I was getting to the mechanic which was lucky lol. The CVs were in really bad shape for the last few months so it was just a matter of time before something went crack.

The good news (after the near $700 bill) is that when driving at 100km/h (and even cruising at 110km/h with the new bearings, joints and shafts) is your arms don't get vibrated out of their sockets and I'm not getting bounced around the cabin anywhere near as much. And like I mentioned above, it is now possible to cruise at 110km/h with the new kit in there where as before it sounded like they had seriously reached their limitations in the condition they were in. Life is good.

One of the mechanics that was working on Ruby asked if he could take it for a spin after the test drive to ensure the wheels were still tracking straight he came back to the workshop with a goofy grin on his face (like I get everytime I drive her) and told me that no matter what condition she is in when it comes time, blown engine or anything, to sell that he will buy it. I told him he will be waiting a while.

Not much news or progress on the Sherpa of late. However, last night I won a new headunit on eBay, hopefully the cd mechanism doesn't sh1t itself a day after installing it like the current Alpine did. It is a Clarion DXZ725 which I won for $10.50 plus $20 postage lol. They are a pretty well spec'd headunit for its' vintage (circa 2004 I think) so it should be fun to see how it compares to the Alpine.

I am waiting on some cheap LED's to come in to replace the driving lights, then just need to change over the headlights to something that will match better then that'll be that... For now...

Im thinking about going with GAR-805 or something like that, but I don't believe in paying additional fee's for rego plates, NSW is a rip off anyway LOL.

If/when she dies I am tossing up whether to buy an old WRX, Brumby or keep the Sherpa and put a new motor into her. Something small capacity but turbo/supercharged would be kool. There is a supercharged 4WD variant of the Sherpa in Japan which is a good prospect.

Hi all,

Here are a couple of updates that I did over the long weekend for sh1ts and giggles.

The paint on the rear drums was flaking off and there was some surface rust which made it damn ugly, so I took the wheels off and had at it with a steel brush, steel wool, sandpaper and some turps to clean it up. The sprayed on two coats of black high temp paint. It came up looking pretty good IMO, I can't wait to get the front calipers done.



A couple of weeks ago I bought some really cheap "carbon fibre" vinyl from eBay to put on some of the ugly faded interior plastics. First stop, the A-sails. I have done some other bits and pieces in the car but they will need redoing because I wasn't overly happy with the way they turned out.

You should cut little circles and put them on the screws or paint the screw heads black

Thanks dude. I painted the brakes late yesterday afternoon/evening (got to love daylight savings!!! Thanks farmers), and taking a look at them today they came up looking pretty schmick. Can't wait to get the fronts done. I also painted the oil filler cap and the top of the radiator yeseterday in the same paint. The radiator paint had all flaked off and was looking terrible, it came up looking pretty good especially with the STi radiator cap. The oil filler cap was already painted in a flat black but I thought it needed some blinging up. Will hopefully get to do the battery bracket in the next day or so to give a bit of a theme throughout. Will also get the air filter cover painted as well to fully blingify the engine bay, to take the focus off all the dirt, grease and oil all over the place.

Yeah, those screws stick out like dog's proverbials. I might try and use the same glossy paint on the screws to hide them. Not sure what else I want to "carbon fibre", would love to see if I can take the speedo cluster apart and incorporate it in that way.

Head into Bunnings and get some screw caps. All you need to do is counter sink the screw in a little bit, and then put it on there. I did this to my sub box, and it looks pretty good (gloss black with these flat black screw covers).

Cost something like $3 for a pack of 50 (unfortunately dont come in smaller sizes). Just look in the builders hardware/supplies section of Bunnings.
