URGENT HELP REQUIRED! Check Engine Light

Postby edd13k » Sun Sep 11, 2011 3:01 am

Hi,

Urgent Help Required!

I was driving home from the city tonight, and suddenly along the M4, I noticed that the Check Engine Light was on, and the [S] (Sport mode) and Cruise control icons were flashing. WTF???

I pulled over and checked the manual, and it said to get it checked out by Subaru ASAP. Does anyone know what this is? or how serious it is?

FYI: Car has a MRT Stage 2

Thanks!

Sounds like a dying alternator, probably meaning your battery voltage is dropping. You can check both yourself with a multimeter.

hey there, question? did it fuel cut?

it has happen to me a couple of times.... sometimes with sensors the computer and spack out... mine did it after i put TBE & intake stuff...To get rid out it, you need to reset the ECU...

1. Make sure car is parked and ignition is off..
2.Take negative terminal off the battery..
3. Pump the brakes to drain all the power..
4. Leave car for 15-20mins..
5. Plug negative terminal back on
6. Then turn key into acc, and it should be gone...

If you have build in satnav then you might have to eject cd then put it back again.

But thats all... Let us know how it goes?

Jack :D :D

get the fault code checked before resetting would be the smart way..... since you have already been tuned.

Don't bother going back to MRT cause it will cost an arm and leg jus to check the code, just find someone with a ECU reader

Thanks Jaz, jacks-GTB, senator.

It's def not the battery. My brother checked it with his multimeter while I was starting the car.

Fuel didn't cut out. It drove fine, I didn't notice a difference in performance (not that I was punching it). Little scared that I could be doing that I'm not supposed to by trying to reset the ECU. Going to call Subaru for a checkup.

I'm going to take it into a Subaru dealer on Tuesday so they can plug it in. One of my friends seems to think it's the AF sensor (does anyone have any experience checking this?)

Ha funny mine is doing the same flashy thing.

I just put on a hyperflow cai, perrin turbo inpipe. Perrin top mount and perrin bov.

First test run was fine. Although the idle is very irregular. But when I shift it has huge turbo flutter. Well I think it is turbo flutter.
Any way I thought I'd put the oem bov on to see if it helped and just as I was going up the drive way. BAM Check engine light up and cruise and sports mode flashing. Wtf??

Doing an ecu reset now.

i found that if you' don't replace the boost solenoid, you keep getting errors as the waste gate control dont' keep up.

there was a point i was driving around with an OBDII scanner /reset thingy plugged in all the time.

the moment i replaced the boost solenoid and tweaked the tune, problem solved.

Do you have to replace the solenoid or could you use an electronic boost controller? This stuff is all pretty new to me still...

Ok so question is. If the mods have caused this engine light. It means something has just gone spaz?

Rather than something terminal

So it "should" be safe to drive?

Hey David, i did similar mods, i talked to MSR who is subaru freak....he told me that it was "maxing out on close loop", because of the intake mods...
he told me its safe to drive, "just do a ECU reset and wait till your tune"....

Ps MSR has seen your car before, because he good mates with troy who your bought your car off... :D

Hmm yeah I did a ecu reset.... 3 times. The last I left overnight still diddnt get rid of the lights, waiting at Subaru now

Yeah I figured it was just the car spazzing out.

What do you mean by maxing out on the closed loop?

On a side note what boost are these tb Sti supposed to produce. Does 16psi sound right?

I gained boost off my mods. Well my defi gauge never used to beep and now it does haha

Lol that's the STI tune for you. Mine is running lean too but I don't want to go get a tune before I finish off my exhaust! But yes you shouldn't be running 16psi boost off stock, but I don't know what mods you've done. I'm running 14.5 on mine and will increase it once I get it tuned...

Stock as a rock. Well it was anyway

Maybe the peak reading on my gauge is from a boost spike
