Concerns of buying Liberty...

Postby Unikat » Fri Sep 02, 2011 7:43 am

Hey,
For 7 years now, I am driving lovely WRX, slightly tuned just to 285hp. I am not really tired of it to be honest, but I just feel it's time to change my scoob for another after long time. I have been looking 04-06 Liberty/Legacy wagon 2.0GT Spec.B twinscroll for a last few years - a dream car...
But. I have some concerns of changing WRX with this fast wagon, would this even be an upgrade ? Please understand, we don't have 2.0GT Legs here, so can't take a test drive anywhere to see it by myself if this is car for me. Could someone here compare ride dynamic of GT and WRX, is longer wheelbase much obvious on Leg when slamming it through the corners? Is GT wagon still enough sporty car but not just on straight road, to be compared with WRX ?

Emm, I just want to be sure what I am trying to get, because wouldn't like to sell lovely and perfect wrx, and than import something which won't be what I am expecting for... :fool: So, some opinions on that would be appreciated! (I know I am asking this on Liberty forum, but sill, please try to be objective)

I work at a dealer and have driven both, alot. For me the only wrx I would own and drive is the gc8. It is light, fast, and brakes good, however due to the crap steering feel if given the choice of a liberty gt I would definitely get the liberty. It may not be as quick due to extra weight but the brakes are great, and you can actually feel the road through the steeringwheel. I would strongly suggest you find a way to roadtest a liberty before making a decision as everyone has different tastes and driving styles.

Thanks on advice.
I would definitely fit Brembos on Liberty, same as I did on wrx. Liberty wagon is not much heavier than wrx, so that thing needs to go, I am most "worried" about suspension, wonder if it's enough sharp and sporty (thinking about those Bilsteins on spec.B), suspension dynamic and factory setting of it. Would really like to see how wagon handles on track, if there is any incam video or something like that...

Often, I drive "regular" 2.0R wagon. Love it. And as you said, feeling of steering wheel's feedback is great. But suspension is not even close to GT (spec.B) I assume, handling also needs to be different. So, all in all I really like the car basically, just not sure how much sporty ride GT can give...?

Bilstens are a massive upgrade and if you get some Sti springs or aftermarket they are stiffer again. Alternatively coilovers can always be an option. Something like HSD's are good.
