Your still going to damage a lip even it its new if you hit something. Its really not too hard to be aware of your surroundings when driving/parking, etc.

Be careful and dont let the missus drive it.

I bought it like this, so I'm not too sure what the previous owner hit. Thanks for the tip, I went to bunnings+super cheap+repco to try and find a bonding agent that is durable yet flexible - no success so far. Might just have to just deal with the rigid lip.

Just fibreglass it and do your best. Mines coming up a treat.

IMHO if your running your lip into things, you shouldnt have a lip on a car or you should learn how to drive.

yea, I'll give it a go. I was looking at the fibreglass kits at bunnings today.
Totally agree that people shouldn't have lowered cars/lips if they can't drive.
Quite honestly, I didn't think it was that bad before I bought the car (thought it would be a quick+easy fix)

I wonder if that might work for you! Do you have Harbor Freight in AU? If not, they ship worldwide.

Lip update.

I did a second layer of fibreglass over the damaged area so its now solid and virtually up to the level of the lip.

Cut off the excess and and veed the crack in front of the mounting bracket so its ready for some body filler to fill the low spots and then sand back.

It's not about avoiding running into things Mark, sometimes you can't avoid it, i.e. me and my steep driveway. My repaired lip was only going to take so much, all it took was a bad angle one day and it cracked again, whereas the new lip is great can put up with a bit of flex!

I found that on driveways etc scraping is no problem since the lip flexes vertically a bit. Its when you shunt it into a barrier or wall that it can't flex and cracks.

Parking nose in to gutters is a killer.

As for the fix on your lip Jerome, did they just plastic weld the crack? If so, then that would just be a weak spot waiting to crack again without much effort.

I layered the fibreglass about 100mm past each side of the repair area. You need the length so that it will still flex a little rather than fixing a small area that wont flex. I can take the lip as it is now and flex it and its all good.
