Matter of opinion, you have yours and I have mine. Nonetheless, completely immature; find one post where I've bagged the Gen V.

I have to deal with it in every fucking thread.

I can solve your problem.

Get some 19's, drop the car. Get that bodykit someone else on this forum got on their GenV. Then your car is great.
But let's be honest here, the looks of the genV are a downgrade from the genIV as stock, I think by now that's just a fact.

I'm not saying the GenV can't look good,(edit:nor am I saying it's a bad car. Clearly the GenV interior is better than the GenIV) because in pearl white lowered with bodykit it looks hot, but just in general the GT looks far too camryish, even with a bonnet scoop it just doesn't look like a performance car.
Perhaps that is why you have to deal with it in every thread, because the GenV stock can't hold a candle to the GenIV stock in looks.

But hey thats what PHATGT is here for right?

I've got 19s, I'm not going to drop it because I have issues getting in and out of my driveway now.

How about this? We've all read over and over again that you guys don't like the look of the new model. Wouldn't it make more sense if you just got the fuck over it?

Ninja edit: Especially in a thread where we're talking about the good point of the Gen Vs.

I was bored of the conversation, and it seems he was too. I was categorically addressing each point he raised and I was told that I get too worked up.

Circular conversation. I tell you I'm sick of dealing with it, you say I should change my car, I say you should just shut up, you say i should get over it. Should I tell you to get over it again?

Has anyone asked a gen v owner why they got one over a gen iv?
I have always thought you would have to be bonkers to spend more on a slower/bigger car.

but maybe they have a reason... (gen v owners please help us understand your reasons.)
I have been thinking about this today at uni.

Often it's because they are getting the car on lease so they have no choice if they want a Liberty.

It's a shame that my next car will probably be a facelift Liberty but I wouldn't buy another after that.

Its 0.2 secs slower. The extra heft was bolstered by more power. Why didn't you get a WRX - its quicker and smaller if that is your deciding factor... or even a second hand GTR?

Tek, you can grab an older one, as long as its less than 7 years old at the end of the lease, but because of fleet discounts, by getting a new one I was picking up a more comfortable, better equipped car for only a couple of grand more.

You can actually go up to 10 years old if you go through a broker who has a relationship with the financier, especially on a car like the Liberty. An arm of my work does asset finance and I got mine on a 5 year lease. By the end of the term it will be just over 9 years old :)

That's good to know, I've always been stuck with whichever broker my firm has a relationship with. My sweet spot is about $60k, which is why my final decision came down to a R36 Passat vs GT Liberty. I'd like to be in the position to consider a second hand AMG63, and maybe if its up around that old i'll be able to squeeze one in.

I sold a GenIV to get my GenV, and I must admit I do miss a lot about my old car. The Gen IV is a physically smaller car that feels sharper and more agile to drive. Also the drivers seat in the Gen IV is much lower than the Gen V which made it feel sportier as well. And while I am happier with the looks of my Gen V now it has better 19"wheels that fill the guards, lower suspension and a front lip spoiler it is still not as good looking as my old Gen IV.
However I have two kids that now do not complain about the cramped rear seat, the new car is gruntier in the real world and I believe it to be quicker in a straight line as well. It is quieter and has better brakes.
As for the interior, there is good and bad. I felt the Macintosh stereo was not as good as my Gen IV, however a $400 speaker upgrade in the front has reversed that issue. The steering wheel is backward step and the quality of the plastic is no where near as good as the Gen IV, but so far I am experiencing less rattles. Also with the SAT NAV hack I found on here, having the DVD for the kids is also a plus. The front seats in the Gen V do not hold you as well as the Gen IV, but i have found them more comfortable on a trip. The ride is better in the Gen V with 19"s than my GenIV with 18"s.
I have found that having the STi springs in my Gen V has made it sharper than stock, but I do think that I will investigate modifying/replaceing the standard bilsteins or sway bars or both to try and get it closer in feel to my Gen IV. It is fair to say the the Gen V is a softer car aimed at a different buyer than the Gen IV.
Having said all that, when faced with the realisation the my Gen IV was too small for my needs I looked at various options to get a practical wagon that also had some fun factor. Not wanting an SS commodore I could not find anything else for $60 grand that offered all wheel drive grip and handling, sub 6sec 0-100km, reasonable fuel economy and the size I needed. There are plenty of euros that i would crawl over molten glass to own, but they are all well north of $100K.
Yes I wish it looked absolutely horn. It doesn't. But as a package for what i need it works very well.
