HOW DO I......know when to replace a clutch?

I just dropped a deposit on a MY08 Liberty TB STI, and it's still on it's original clutch with 73000+kms on the clock.

What are the tell-tale signs to look for?

Many Thanks in advance!

When i cooked my clutch I would have to rev to 2,000 before it started to even get going and it would be in a very high rev for the low speed it was travelling.

If you have trouble selecting a gear while driving, that's a bad sign.

I haven't had any problems like above yet, well in my two test drives. But I did notice a little pop on the when I'm releasing the clutch.
Gears do not slip and the gear stick does not rattle/vibrant alot.

You'll notice it when accelerating in higher gears (4to 6)

clutch will begin to slip slightly, this means when you step on the accelerator it will rev more than the car moves and youll most probably find it a little harder to get into some gears.

The other guys are spot-on. Stick it in 4th at 100 km/h and nail it - if the revs flare the clutch is slipping. Trying in the lower gears isn't a good test, particularly on an AWD car where the clutch is dedigned to be the weak point.

If it helps, I have an MY08 STi with 73000km and no sign of clutch slip.

Shuddering can be a sign, slip as mentioned can also be tested stationary; put your foot on the brake and the handbrake on, rev the car to ~2,000rpm and release the clutch, if it lurches forward violently its ok, if it moves slowly or not at all its slipping bad. Another way can also be loading it up when cruising slowly, at about 20kmph rev it to about 3,500rpm and put it in 4th and dump the clutch, if the revs drop instantly its fine, if they sit for a second its slipping.

The clutch engagement point can also be an indication for wear in some cars (unless the pedal has been adjusted dramatically to suite the wear), if the clutch grabs when the pedal is still close to the floor it is heavily worn, if it grabs at about halfway up or higher its near new.
Built not bought, it's a way of life.

I just ticked over 140 000, I think I'll be due sooner rather than later.
