Powder Coating Rims

I would like to darken the standard 17" rims on my car by having the rims powder coated. I think this would be good after seeing it on another Liberty owner who is on this forum ( :wink:

).

Can someone tell me where, how much and how long it takes.

Depending on where you have it done I would think it will cost around $35-$60 per wheel to have them sandblasted and then powdercoated, takes up to 5 working days where I had mine done, I can dig out their phone number if you don't mind driving all the way to Brookvale, they have done a really good job with my wheels and were great to deal with.

Thing to consider: You will lose datadots of the wheels

Nice avatar BTW, those buildings in the background remind me of this place near Goulburn that I've seen on few postcards

yep, all but the deepest scrapes will disapear, guys that have done my wheels did just a litle bit of extra sanding by hand on the lip to get all of the scrapes out and results were fantastic.

hmmmm, another ponderous idea for me to dwell on... dont know how good powder coated rims would look on my colour car tho....

I guess it depends on the colour of your car and colour of th powder coat you select, here is what my wheels look like...

That powdercoating looks really good, gives the standard rim a unique look. Whats that colour u went with et & does it last for long time?

Hello,

I had my rims sandblasted and powdercoated about 6months ago got them done for $60 each, prices will vary depending on the finish you want, mines a metallic pearl therefore the price is slightly more.

I got it done at:
Mr Clean - Blast & Coat - Padstow
Unit 3 / 89 Gow St Padstow NSW 2211
ph: (02) 9790 4758 Powder Coating Services

Takes 1 working week possibly less, you need to get your tyres removed on your own so thats another $30 or so and have them refitted when you are done - which is another $50 inclu. valve caps and balancing. Thats probably the most irritating bit as you'll need to borrow a set of wheels or a week or so.

In the end it's worth it, here's the end result of my adventure:

Colour is "Black Onyx Pearl"

HEY et, I just noticed your centre cap is coloured too was that powdercoated?

I never thought it was possible to do that, is it metal or plastic?

I can not remember the colour name unfortunately, it also depends on the range and brand of powders available at your local powder coater.
This finish is much tougher than having your rims sprayed in a conventional way with normal paint.

Centre cap is plastic, there was no dramas getting it powder coated even though they reach something like 180-200 degrees when baking.

Ahhh, I never knew it would be that durable I guess it would have to be to withstand the heat the brakes generate, awesome! thanks for clearning that up

My mate did it on his Silver Sti Rex, looks hot in dark colour rims.
