Sydney reppin'. Newbie needs help haha!

Postby legitco » Mon Aug 15, 2011 7:41 pm

Hey everyone, stumbled across this forum and there seems to be alot of you haha! Anyway i'm 18, a first year apprentice mechanic and am looking to buy a car. I've been looking at gen 4 liberty's because i love the look of them. I have a few questions,

1. Can you take out the front half shafts and make it a rwd?
2. What's the difference between the 2.0 and the 2.5L motors?
3. Anything i should look out for when looking at liberty's? We've had quite a few subaru's come into work with blown head gaskets.. :s
4. What are the best mods for them? Namely exhausts, coilovers, springs, rims (preferably deep dish!)

Anyway if i havent wasted enough of your time, I hope to be addicted to this website and am willing to listen to all suggestions :)

Cheers!
Andrew.

1 Can you take out the front half shafts and make it a rwd? Why would you want to?
2 What's the difference between the 2.0 and the 2.5L motors? 2.5 - 2.0 = 0.5
3 Anything i should look out for when looking at liberty's? Low flying ducks.
4 What are the best mods for them? Namely exhausts, coilovers, springs, rims (preferably deep dish!) eBay cannons, are you going to go with coilovers or spring/strut combos? anything chrome and around 22"
Car(s): Steel Silver MY10 GT Wagon + 1985 Subaru Sherpa

Mods: (GT) HKS Panel Filter. The HKS I put in the MY10 is the same filter I took out of my MY05 GT. So yes, they do fit. Custom leather heel pad to minimise carpet wear in the drivers footwell. Slotted front rotors. (Sherpa) 14'' 6 Spoke mags, Chrome Gear Shift (sick!), Alloy Pedals (sicker!), new positive and negative battery terminals, Alpine cda-9827 H/U, JBL GT 6x9's boxed and mounted (sickest!), Kicker DS650.2 component speakers mounted in the footwells in flibreglass pods, Alpine MRP-F200 4 channel amp (4x40wRMS), Rebadged with hektik chrome eBay badges, STi stickers for more powaaaa, "leather" handbrake boot, recarpetted with grey/black car carpet from Bunnings, sick Clarke Rubber boot mat, polished and waxed.

1 - yes you can do anything if you really want to and have the money, but just dont do it. if you want rwd so you can drift or do burnouts, get an xr6  liberty is a great handling car as an awd, dont mess with a good thing

2 - i like garbo's explanation :). for useful advice wait for someone who knows what theyre talking about to reply....or search around on the forum

3 - again, cant really top garbo's answer. theres threads on here about what to look for as well. heres a few that came up on the first page/two, some useful stuff in them
viewtopic.php?f=45&t=13074
viewtopic.php?f=45&t=12554
viewtopic.php?f=45&t=12182
and some sort of comparison stuff
viewtopic.php?f=45&t=11792
viewtopic.php?f=45&t=12660

4 "what are the best mods for them" how longs a piece of string mate? theres no such thing as the "best mods" as a blanket rule. the forums really well organised - exhaust section, engine section, wheels/brakes etc, just browse through them and have a read. rims that members have fitted can be found here
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=5633
and exhaust video clips here
viewtopic.php?f=55&t=2382
this should give you somewhere to start

p.s. garbo havnt you heard, 23" is the new 22"
