Clutch problem 01 RX liberrty (manual)

Postby turkishbread » Thu Aug 04, 2011 6:13 pm

So ive just got my car back from my sister and her only explanation is the clutch cable is gone.

Its a 01 liberty rx manual, ive had a play with the clutch and when i depress it it does not come back as it should, there is a cable running thru the firewall and also what appears to be a hydrualic attached as well, what would be the reason for it not returning as normal and where is there any replacment advice if it is the clutch cable?

ok so a update
ive followed the clutch cable and inside the engine bay on the left hand wheel side is a pivot point where the clutch cable ends, when i move the clutch the pivot moves but again does not return to its normal place, the spring that is attached seems fine but doesnt pull it back and there is a hydrualic hose or something that comes out of the same point but i cant follow where it goes.
so i dont think its the cable, is there any way to test if its the hydralic cylinder that also holds the clutch?

I'd start by either taking it to a mechanic or replacing the slave cylinder (and re-bleeding).

well i found a small break in the hydraulic clutch line near the slave cylinder.
don't know if that's the only problem but its a start, the auto stores i went to told me they cant even order this hose in.
Has someone replaced this line between master and slave cylinders before where did you go or is subaru the only stocker. any aftermarket ones you got?

Cheers for the help

I've had this problem a few times, we replace both the hose and slave cylinder then bleed the clutch system. Easy as.

As for where to get the parts aftermarket, have you spoken to a clutch specialist?

ok so i talked to peps auto (in Liverpool they can manufacture hose's) and they gave me a $90 quote for a rubber hose, is there anyreason to keep the hardline in there at all, i dont see why i couldnt replace the hardline and rubber hose with a ss hose and get the same result?
has anyone tried this and is $90 a joke because it seems a bit extreme for what i need

So you want to replace the hardline and the rubber hose with just a hose?
I wouldn't do that, but it's upto you.

I'd get (and have done) a braided s/steel hose made up - used the old one as the 'template'. Think it was $60 or so a few years ago.

yeah i decided against it, the hard line fitting is alot smaller then the hose so it wouldn't work anyway.
i did however get a SS hose made up for $83 from peps after i talked to them for a bit.
however after getting my car going i tried to use the rear demister and nothing in that area works not my aircon fan or demisters not even the lcd screen, frustrating because the fuse is good so Thursday its going to a auto electrician cause i have no idea.

The fuse could be faulty, I've had a fuse that looked good but didn't work before, try swapping it with another of the same rating.
