Replacing a Blown Turbo

Postby shiftyshazz » Mon Aug 08, 2011 1:26 am

Hi All,

This is my firs time here and you all seem to have great knowledge.

I have a MY05 Lib STI & the turbo is gone.
I am a little confused with all the options from my reserach in Melb

- $5,700.00 for a new one, 1-2mth wait.......bloody joke
- Rebuild current one to orgional specs, $800.00.....have been told by a couple of other people that this is not possible?
-Rebuild current one to full ball raced spec $3-$4K and will then need a re flash $800 odd

I am hoping that someone has been down this path and can advise me of a good option.
This car has 90k on the clock and is a daily driver.
Not driven hard to often as there are too many camera's and I have 1 point left.

Can anyone recommend a good place in Melb, so far I am leaning towards HP-F in Dandenong.

Any help is really appretiated.

Cheers

Those prices are a bit excessive in total for turbo replacement costs, shop around, speak to springy motors, chasers, ART, they can all sort you out.

The price of $5700 is correct through Subaru as my friends are right now going throught the same dilema.

Phat can land them out of Japan for $3200, but Japan has no stock currently.

I know you can rebuilld them as a member on RS Liberty Club had his done for under 2K iirc.

On another note, you do have options of replacing the old with something different. You'll more than likely need a new dump pipe and tune, but you do have options which is a good thing. Can't tell you what's the best set up as it depends on what you want from the set up, but post up a thread on the topic and I'm sure you'll get a heap of replies. Could end up saving you money too. You can also get second hand turbos but be careful there, you need to trust the seller and get a good one.

Would a GTPS01T not be perfect if you want to keep things the same? It would be bolt on, be better than the original in every way and you could have it tuned for inside the budget of a new subaru factory one?
