Not sure if I have mentioned or not, but a week or so ago I replaced the dash lights with LEDs... The camera on my Blackberry doesn't do it justice (and the after photo was taken about 30mins later when it was quite dark that afternoon) but the LEDs are a little bit brighter. I'm not entirely happy with the end result but it is just a bit more rice for Ruby... I've got to test the LEDs I put in there compared to the ones I am using for the footwells to see which is brighter. If the footwell LEDs are brighter then I will replace the dash lights once again.

A little bit more progress this evening. This is what I am thinking of doing, mounting on the side trim in the back of the Sherp-a-derp. This baffle will be mounted behind the trim to give it a bit more structural stability. I may end up just making a new trim piece anyways so it may not matter. My only concern with making a new trim is the fact that the seatbelt mechinism is down behind the trim itself. I'll have to unbolt the top of the seat belt to feed it through the new trim, if that makes sense. I am assuming that once unbolted, the seat belt will try and retract all the way (not that it does it very well anymore)??? Any advice on this? Is there any sort of universal seat belt retractor mechanisms I can replace the factory ones with???

Anyways, here is a few pictorials.


I am not 100% sure what I am going to do about terminals. I am thinking of mounting a pair of those "banana" type connectors on the face of the trim, either on the left or right. Opinions?

Top notch SuperCheap Auto 12g OFC (Oxygen Free Cable). Heat shrunk to make it a little bit professional haha. After finishing soldering I remembered that I am going to be putting a potential 300wRMS so I might put in a lower guage cable. This short length shouldn't cause too much of an issue, but I'll hopefully have a couple of short lengths of 4g cable so we'll see.

Yeah, the drillbit moved on a couple of the holes, ah well... It's ghetto for a reason

I'll be mounting them horizontally so behind the seats so hopefully it won't be too noticeable when cables are terminated onto lugs and secured down. I've possibly just figured out how I am going to mount the bus bars... Watch this space!

The seatbelt will be fine if you undo it, you can always pull it out if it retracts too much.

I'd suggest pricing up a few second hand seatbelts before venturing into new items as I reckon it'd be fairly hard to find new ones. But firstly, try spraying some silicone spray or CRC/WD40/RP7 stuff on it first (Pull it all the way out, spray both sides as it retracts, repeat a second time, pull it out a few times and let it retract on its own. After a few goes the lube should start to take affect and it should be a bit quicker).

Hi all,

I had an hour to spare this afternoon when I left work early to celebrate POETS Day. I have been looking at my tail lights and getting quite annoyed with the hazing on them so I pulled one off and gave it a polish. I'll pull the other side off now and take a comparison pic before I polish it as well, they were both in very similar condition so it'll give a good idea. Here are the before and after pics of the drivers side tail light.

Yeah we use meguires plastx at work for lights. Amazing stuff!

This was done using Menzerna waxes 4 different grades of cut. I think it came out pretty good. Looking forward to putting the lights back on the Sherpa tomorrow.
