Gambit's Development Project

Yeah the plan is coilovers, roll center kit, rear camber arms and front sway with hd links front and rear, and then some big arse brakes, and that is it.

Had the pleasure of being taken for a ride in this beast today, all i can say is.. Wow.. Just f**ken wow.. It's neck breakingly fast. Definitely feels like the fastest car I've been in, and the fact that its a family wagon just makes it that much better! Great work Anthony.

I'm sure you could bribe Anthony with a set of AP Racing brakes, or Alcons.. In fact I'm sure he'd give you the car for a whole day if you paid him with brakes. (Trust me, he needs them when you're going THAT fast)

Yep need some big arse brakes and unfortunately my wheels will not clear Brembos, so either i go 8-10mm spacers or i look into getting AP's that will clear.

Oh yeah i have a credit with Driver dynamics for a day with them, so mark my words i will be out at sundown one day, but first i got to get this car to brake and handle well first, the chassis is begging for it.

Oh yeah here are some hub centric 10mm spacers that should fit:

btw what are the pros and cons of running spacers?

Would a second hand set of STI calipers work? You could then go Dixcel rotors (which are AP racing I believe) and pads, then a nice set of rims to fit

Just my 2 cents worth

Thanks Jeffas, the brembos that i am looking at getting are actually the STI calipers, and unfortunately the wheels that i have do not clear them. I definitely need better brakes and the Brembos are a fantastic bang for buck upgrade. I just want to keep my wheels and use them, so the only alternatives are to either use spacers such as these from just Jap.

or alternatively try and find some alternative calipers that will clear the standard OEM wheels and thus my wheels at a greater expense.
ie. AP Racing or Stoptechs.

by which time he's probably spent more than buying a set of AP calipers and if necessary suitable rotors. And probably for less braking performance.

Gambit, have you upgraded your pads yet? For a easy, high performance solution that is as good as the STI Brembos (except for maybe fade resistance over a very long period a bit of caliper flex) you don't get much cheaper. A few hundred for pads (that you could easily on-sell if they don't fit your needs) would get you into the same sort of braking performance as a Brembo upgrade would.

Also, you should be thinking about grippy tyres if you are worried about outright braking performance. The stock rotors with good pads will over power pretty much any tyre short of a hot slick.

thanks Smythie, yeah Yokohama AD08's in 235/40/18's will be the tyre of choice, and a set of R spec RE55s for track duty is the plan.
No have not upgraded my pads yet, what pads do you recommend?

For the stock brake setup lets say:
pads f & r $400~
braided lines fronts 200~
cusco brake stopper $100~
Total $900

Brembos calipers $800~
rotors $350
pads f & r $400
braided lines front $200
plus i need spacers to clear my wheels $150~
Total $1900

AP Racing
$3k~ for the kit

Thats about right....?

Ask Phat GT regarding spacers, he has fitted are large range of sizes to our cars with very good results..... they even come with hub rings too, I think.
