Mcintosh CD Stacker Issues

Postby shano » Thu Jun 16, 2011 5:49 pm

Anyone had trouble playing cds on a Mcintosh CD stacker? Only bought the car a month ago, initially I just thought it needed a clean but now it always come up with "focus error" and won't play any discs. I have only been using real cd's also, no burnt ones... Any body else had issues? A solution?

Ah... the dreaded focus err problem. From the reading I did of this when it happened to me I also tried the CD cleaning trick (with an office works cd) and that worked for the 2 weeks prior to I replaced the head unit ... sounds like it hasn't worked for you though.

The cost of replacement is steep unless you can find a cheap one from a wrecker or someone who has upgraded their head unit?

Otherwise 2 options:
1. Aux connection and use an ipod
2. Aftermarket head unit... blacktop is selling his black fascia pretty cheap at the moment.

bah... It has progressively got worse till today and now no playing at all. Very annoying!!! Do they have AUX connections in all of them? That'd do the trick

This might be the thread you're after Shano

Buy the part and install it yourself? I managed to install an aux cable to my car and I am by no means a great DIY person. Removing the head unit is actually quite easy if you haven't done it before.

got mine to work again by pulling all cds out then i turned car off and then on again loaded a cd waited for it to scan i leaned towards it to listen to it spin and just hit/punched the front of the system and it worked again. it just needed a bump it was like something popped out of place and with a hit it popped back in. :D
try it, it should work. you just have to hit it as its trying to read the cd and just before it says push eject, and hit it a few times not just once.
