Cheap fix for gutter rash?

Postby stew07gt » Fri Jun 03, 2011 9:34 pm

So twice somehow in the last 2 weeks, ive not been paying attention in carparks id not driven in before, and once when having a fail at reverse parking, and have managed to put some minor dents/chunks out of the sides of my rim (regretting not getting dish ones now as these stick out heaps). I am clearly retarded.

Point is has anyone d.i.y repaired gutter rash without taking them to a wheel shop to be machined? K&H makes something called metal mend. was considering trying that but i dont really want to sand back too much of my rim..... worst case is i stuff it up and get them powder coated in gunmetal.

helps would be tops.

Although I have matte black rims I just wet sand it to smooth surface from 1500-3000 then paint over, you would never know

yeah i tried that hamish, worked pretty good, and for a colour blind person, id say my colour matching went pretty well.

Not sure if this helps you but I had all 4 of my rims cleaned up and re-painted for $200 each.

They had a bit of gutter rash and chips after 6 years and needed doing. Morton and May Wheels out at Liverpool did a great job and I'm very happy. They use a 2 pack enamel paint so cost a bit more but the finish is close to when they were new. Choose a different colour than before and they are now more gunmetal/graphite in colour.

A bit expensive but I didn't want to get new rims.

I would seriously consider this if my rims get any worse in the future!
