Smoke

New owner of a 4Gen 3.0R Spec.B My06 and have noticed a little smoke coming from engine, not much and only in small bursts. Is that something to do with turbo or something? Only just bought the car and had it inspected 3 days ago, no issues. Also as you can tell, not a mechanical person.

Welcome. The 3rspecB has a 3ltr Naturally Aspirated 6 cylinder engine, so no turbo..

If you bought from a dealer, take it back as it should have warranty..

I'm thinking maybe some oil has been spilt on the headers but take it back to where you bought it from to get checked out..

Sorry wouldn't have a clue what could be doing that mate but it doesn't sound fun at all
The H6 is not a turbo model though, it is a naturally aspirated 3 litre Horizontally opposed 6 cylinder, so no turbos involved.
Although if you want to see a turbo'd one check out DeMobBoss's twin turbo H6
so yeah I'd say its pretty serious if there's smoke though

No turbo is no problem for me, its quick enough
I'll get it checked again, was serviced recently and i had a full vehicle inspection done on it 3 days ago, no faults. Thanks, something tells me this forum is going to be very helpful.

If it was only recently serviced, I'd say just give it a week or so to see if the smoke persists. I'm thinking the mechanic probably spilled oil or other chemical and the hot engine is just burning it off.

If they had put the upper engine cleaner (or whatever it's called) through it during the service, you may see some white smoke during warm up for a week or two. Similar if they have used the fuel tank additive.

Whether those two steps were done during the service is another question altogether as they are added cost that someone selling a vehicle may decide to skip...

On my parents outback (essentially the same car) the front CV joint boots had a split and put some grease onto the exhaust, made a little smoke but the smell was quite strong.

And some of us remember a cruise to Mt Baw Baw where smoke was seen coming from under the bonnet of my 3.0R. It was a cross threaded sump plug from the service done the week before. A little oil was dripping on to the exhaust manifold and viola....

I have also expereinced the CV boot splitting and grease getting on to the exhast manifold. Much stronger smell and less visible. Really noticable when you park in a garage.

Both are easliy fixed.

In the inspection i had done, i was told that the front inner boots are split, i didnt know that could lead to some smoke(NO MECHANICAL KNOWLEDGE HERE AT ALL). Glad its not a big deal, i was told to get it fixed in the next service. Cheers

Front inner CV boots are a very common issue on all Subarus as the exhaust runs so close to them and dries them out.

That is a very likely cause of the smoke, and as mentioned CV grease makes a strong burning smell, when the car smokes if you get out can you smell a burning smell too?

Did you eventually get it sorted out, and how much was the repair? I think the same problem happened to my car today, there was a lot of smoke though and the smell was very strong. I had a look inside the engine bay and found some oil residual around the front CV joint on the driver side, the steering knuckle was also covered a shiny layer of oil as well.

Is not oil it's the grease from the cv boot. It gets flicked everywhere.

Yeah, pricks to clean, I just wipe it up roughly off everything, but degrease the exhaust so it won't have anything to burn.
