Is this also the case with radio/cd player or is this just from your AUX cable?

Maybe the voltage coming out of the iphone isn't enough. You could try buying an amp module that people typically hook up to portable MP3 players for running big headphones. What connector is the AUX-in?

The best way to go about it is to replace the headunit really. If you are trying to play such a poor signal (like that of an iPhone etc) you are really running the risk of ruining the speakers.

I would never hit MAX on any audio equipment. It'll ruin everything from amps, all the way to your speakers.

Like JIM said above, use modules like this http://www.tuaw.com/2011/01/07/godap-am ... output-fo/ to connect to AUX or Optical in if u have a processor.

for your "likes", i think its time for a POWER UPGRADE!!!! heheh its the only way you're going to get it LOUD n PROUD!!!! :D :D

Well I just think the standard stereo doesn't go loud enough.. You'd think from a 14 speaker stereo system it would be louder than that.. I don't really have the cash to upgrade the whole stereo system at the moment and plus it takes away the original look from the centre console.

I was just wondering if there was some sort of little pcb amplifier that I could connect in line with the existing one or something like that.. Just wish the stereo would go to volume 50 cause that would be perfect.. The stereo produces really good sound it just doesn't go loud enough to my liking when my fav songs come on.. :D

Naw, that's just for clarity and bragging. You'll have to install an amp to go 'louder'.

This is a bit of a tangent, but if these are playing off your MP3 player, have you thought about the MP3 file itself? MP3 files that have a higher bitrate tend to have a louder default level. If these songs were ripped from a CD, you should re-encode the MP3's with a higher bitrate, say 192 or higher. That should help a bit as well without having to spend money on new hardware. Just a thought.

I know the 14 speaker stereo is all crap it just makes the car sound a bit better but it's not just from my mp3 player or iPod its the radio the CDs it just doesn't go loud enough. My Mazda 3 MPS had a louder stereo and it only had half the amount of speakers said to be in the lib...

bingo..
more volume simply needs more power to the speakers, from a bigger amp.

an added option is to add sound insulation in your doors to keep as much of the audio and speaker energy inside the car.
i.e dynamat and seal the inner door skins and add sound barrier material to the outer door skins.

you get teh added bouns of heavier doors which "feel" better when you close them,
more of the speakers energy is turned into actual sound energy (instead of flexing the door skin)
and less road noise, which makes the actual volume level "appear" louder.

Its design was "supposedly" for quality. There are mini amps on the market that will fit under the seat. "Plus" you can retain the original look from the centre console even if you upgraded everything. Just go for a stealth install with a processor so u dont need a new HU. :D :D

on the topic of upgrading the amps,
how is the wiring for the speakers configured?
i.e
is it a 5ch amp (FL- FR- RL- RR- Sub) and the corssovers are within the individual speakers?
or does each individual speaker have an output from the amp?

They run off passive crossovers - so the inputs are just two wires for each 'cluster' of speakers.

I'm not sure if you have tried this but have you tried changing the iphone settings?

Go into your settings and ensure Sound Check is "off", that will add some sound boost. Mine was really quiet too until I took sound check off...

Get yourself a FiiO E1 or E5 amplifier, off dealextreme - will cost you about $20, but it'll give you much more volume.
