*HELP* re: Phat DP & muffs vehicle inspection

Postby dwayne » Mon May 09, 2011 3:03 pm

Hi All,

looooong time since I've been on here, other things in life have taken a huge priority over the past year or so.... Hope everyone is still playing nice

Some help please (especially WA ppl), but due to a long story involving splitting from the ex, moving house and her returning to sender my rego renewal mail, I have to take my MY07 TB STi over the pits.

I know some of these things are inspector dependant, but will my car pass with a Phat DP, Phat 3" and Y pipe, and Phat Quad tips ? I.e. will it pass noise and/or emission tests legally ?

I'm suspecting they won't defect it because of the tune, so that's OK, only other thing might be the whiteline sway bars ?

So failing the Phat system being passed, does anyone in WA have a Gen IV Manual OEM turbo back exhaust setup they can loan me for a while ? Happy to compensate with beer :)

Dwayne

For a stock system, Doug at STechnec may be able to assist.

not sure about the rules in WA, but here in NSW the car must be as it left the factory unless the modification is engineered.

I know when Phat used my car to mock up the system the sound was measured and found to be around 88db.

One positive point for you would be since the car has been tuned you will not be running as rich as the OEM tune, which should win you a few points there for emissions test.
Not a soobi anymore, but still slightly dirty

My car went over the pits in Perth as it was previously from QLD.

It has turbo back aftermarket exhaust and pretty loud.

Passed without a problem.

His only comment was how nice it was to drive on his test run.

haha.. Ive taken several Subarus over the pits from interstate purchases (none with aftermarket parts though).. but Ive also received similar comments from the inspectors about how well finished the cars are etc.. I think they are sick of driving holdens and fords with yellow stickers LOL

I took my car to get inspected at O'Conner.

With turbo back aftermarket exhaust passed without a problem.

You don't have to make a booking it is first in first served. There where three inspectors working when I went. So did't wait long.

I watched the guy do it and don't think he did any noise or pollution tests.

You should give it a go with your car as is.

Thanks all for the tips.

I'll take the vehicle over as-is and see how it goes.

Laurie, will look at taking you up on that offer if it doesn't go over.

Just noticed one of my park lights has failed, so I'll replace that and take over this week.

Thanks ALL

PS: Turns out Doug is top mates with a contractor I have working for me.... Small world

Just as an update, it passed as is over the pits at Welshpool with no problems.

Inspector took it for a drive, came back and asked two questions

1) Does it come in Auto (yes)
2) Does it come in a ute (no)

He shook his head and said "Thought I found my dream car for a minute" :)

LOL! Congrats Dwayne! Although not to that level of detail, but a lot of Phat modified vehicles have been inspected through and through and haven't had any issues.
