Random Engine Light Illumination?

Postby jacobraftery » Fri Apr 02, 2010 2:28 pm

Hey Everyone,

Was driving home last night around 6 with 4 mates in the car and all of a sudden the engine light comes on, around 5-10 minutes into the journey...
I wasn't driving like and idiot, everything was completely normal. I immediately pulled over and lifted the hood, the temperature gauge was fine, the oil looked fine (if not smelt a little bit burnt) and the water was fine...

Im just wonderingif theres anything I should be looking for...
SHould I get it looked at... Or does this randomly happen sometime?
My car is a MY03 RX 2.5L Sedan, if that helps anyone

Any information would be sweet, thanks guys.

Your best best is to take your car to someone with a scantool to see what error code caused the light to come on. It could be anything from a loose/dirty harness to a faulty sensor of some sort.

The low oil warning light in our cars doesn't activate until about 2psi or so.

I.e. the low oil warning light is there to tell you that your engine is lunched ;)

Just get a workshop to go over it with the scan tool. If the light goes out the computer has resolved the issue itself or the symptoms have temporarily gone. Either way if it is on, or has been on, get it checked with a scan tool. It takes like 5 minutes.
Built not bought, it's a way of life.

lol funny i had a engine warning light come on got her home rang suby and they said that the car will self fix in 48hours, 48 fixed, i had checked my oil levels about 1k kms before first oil warning light, then it came on again and i heard a slight nocking noise, this time when i rang i booked in for service next day she was in and then that arvo they ring me saying that pretty much the hole bottom end is how to say FUCKED, lol they questioned me saying that i had not checked oil or wat eva in ages i said to them last service was only 4k kms ago so where has 5l of oil gone, (sorry for folks driving down M4 behind me) they didint answer, so pretty much they gave me a new engine but they didint wind the CLOCK back   but happy side new engine, :assassin: :assassin: so morale of this story is that i had phantom oil one min it was there the next GONE, dont trust your warning lights get it checked as soon as one comes on, now i check every 1k kms , funny note they said that if i want to i can come in every 2k km and they will check the oil for me (   )
