3M Carbon Fibre Wrap

Hey Guys,

i know many of you have mixed feelings of carbon fibre and whether its on the interior or exterior. But i was helping out a mate with his subaru weathershields and i ended up snapping his weathershield. He said instead of replacing it, we can just wrap it but you have to pay for the wrap. So after that was done, i was left with a lot of leftover wrap. I was considering selling it...but at the Easter Cruise, Jim aka tek gave me some ideas on using some of it.

Here is where i used some of the leftover wrap on the car. I did some parts on the car where i initially wanted to paint black, instead wrapping it in cf

but I'm not as motivated as you lol.
The grille looks nice, I've seen Jim's but never seen the post-face done, I like it!

Cheers for the opinions. Drove the car around today. Agreed that the tail light strip doesnt work as well as i had planned. Nevertheless, easy to take off.

Rick, nah mate havent even thought of the door handle surrounds. Im sure its easy as the mirrors and grill were probably the hardest bits to cf wrap. I might actually give it a go haha.

Yeah the grill i think looks nice on a post facelift, a good alternative to painting it black, and if you want it chrome again...just strip it off!

Hey soobi, the grill install is quite simple. All you do is detach the grill from the car. When you take it off the car and you turn it upside down, the screws and hinges are visible from the other end. Making it easy to detach both the single chrome wing and the chrome surround off. Allowing you to take it with you to clean, prep and wrap and you can wrap it behind so when you reattach it, its hidden so the finish is clean. Simply put it back and done!

Cheers Shane, taken the tail light strip off as i agree also. Made the car look like it has eyeliner haha. Guess it doesnt work on a non dark colour.

I like it too, but like the rest... not quite the tail lights. Will need to bug you for pointers one day

Haha, i asked tek for pointers and all you need is a heatgun, if you dont have one a hairdryer is suffice and go away at it with a scalpel or stanley knife depending on how fine you want your results to be.

I love my CF & if you ask me what you've done looks great to me... Except I'm going to have to agree with Shano about the bits under the rear lights. BUT, if you did more CF bits on the rear or maybe tinted your tail lights I could change my mind

Hrm i cant remember. It was lengthwise for the weather shields complete wrap so no overlapping or half cutting. So im actually left with quite a lot. Dimensions im not sure as he bought it all.

I agree swingn. I have an ultrex rear cf diffuser however, its a different shade and a wet look cf compared to the dry 3m one and one seems grey and the other is black so yeah. So i gave it a try but It looks funny with it on, two different types of CF so i took it off. Tail light tints i was thinking of, but i was afraid it might turn out like the under the taillight strip. So yeah.

Here is a photo i took with the other ones from yesterday, before i decided to cf wrap the tail light strip to show you the contrast of the cf on the ultrex rear diffuser as opposed to the pics above of the dry black look cf wrap from 3M.


Also i still need more practice, if you take a closer look at the grill there are a few imperfections as i wasnt experienced with the wrap. The mirrors i have to redo as the edges are cut dodgy so ill have to take the mirrors off completely and have them on a bench to do it properly. Despite the imperfections on the grill, most of you wouldnt have noticed anyway so im lazy to redo that. haha.

Took a look at the door handles.....doesnt look promising and the shape is a bit difficult and precise cutting is required, probably have to pop the door open but ill probably leave it as it might turn out like the tail light strip and it would be difficult to put it on and then a pain to take off..

Thanks Shane. Did you get your's done with these guys? IIRC, I think you did it yourself and got the stuff off ebay... but it was a while ago I read that, so cannot remember accurately.
