Which fuel r u using?

Nearly everything is in here to start with.
If it's about your car, or Subaru's in general, put it in "Subaru Chat".

How does this compare to Caltex and BP ?

Mobil is first choice for me, then Caltex and finally BP. I avoid Shell fuel unless I'm going to the track..

With the Mobil my car feels slightly more responsive than the Caltex which in turn feels slightly better than the BP. I consistently get about 50-80klms less out of a tank using BP than the other two.

I use BP Ultimate 98, but if I'm a bit low on cash I'll grab a shell discount voucher from mum and get the V-Power.

Maybe once every few months I'll use Caltex if I get it on the way to my gf's place.

All 3 feel pretty even, haven't noticed a difference in kms and performance wise they all seem the same too, but I don't push my car to really test that.

Still trying to work out what's best for my car. Been using V-Power mostly, but have even tried Shell 91, as well as BP Ultimate. Shell 91 was shithouse (as you would expect), car lacked balls down low and generally idled unsteadily. Not a lot of difference between BP Ultimate and V-Power. However i did get about 85-95km's more out of the V-Power tank than the Shell 91, so it makes the price difference completely worth it 8)

Hey guys

I was going to start another thread, but came across this one and will put my experiences on here and see what you guys think...

I normally fill up with Shell V-Power as my preferred fuel, however the other day (4 days ago), the line to the station was absolutely massive, and after queuing up for about 25 mins, I finally got to the front, and the only bowser available to me was the 95 unleaded. There was no way I would be queuing up again to get to the only 1 Shell V-power bowser, so I put about three quarters of a tank in.

However today, as I was going through the gears, 1st to 2nd is fine, but from 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th, from about 3,000 to 4,300rpms, it feels as though my car is choking or dare I say it... constipated. That feeling that it wants to rev, but it can't.. You can feel it, when it gets higher, the car sounds restricted for some reason and you feel the car back off the throttle (even when my foot is down), I can't really type the feeling, but I'm sure you may know what I am talking about.

What do you guys think it is...? I have a feeling it may be the fuel changing in the engine and its just lost the octane of the other fuel... it's not going to cause me further problems down the track is it?

Am I even making sense?! :? Please shed some light on this. thanks!
Below car has been gone for quite some time now... blew bottom end bearing and dealership screwed me! Now driving 2008 WRX with ~65k kms on the clock. Only has cat back exhaust and tune by KiDo at the moment! More to come... but slowly!

Purchased recently (12/11/2013), already with: Stage 2 Pedders lowered springs, rear Whiteline sway bar, Advan Racing TCII 18x8 wheels, k&N pod filter, custom 3" exhaust system from turbo back with Magnaflow mufflers. ECUTEK tune of some sort (hopefully soon to be fixed)..... now FIXED!! Now KiDo Tuned!
Added: HID kit, EZ lip equivalents to the front and sides, and various LED treatments, oem boot spoiler, [LGT WRC] plates, GFB Respons BOV for extra Pssscchhh! --> Gone... I couldn't afford it's heart transplant... but keep a look out, as it will come back on sale soon!

I think that using E10 can be quite cost effective, especially now with those 20c off per litre. You can fill up at like 116.9! Haven't been able to do that in yonks!

I fail to understand the term "cost effective" for fuel when we all mod our cars generally to go faster.

The difference between those is a few cups of coffee a week. Hardly worth skimping.

If you want cost effective fuel savings, buy a Fiesta. :P

As I've said before, I wouldn't use E10 to even start a fire.

I go with Shell. Mainly because it's closest and we generally have a shopper docket floating around.

I don't support BP after their environmental disaster. ;)

Which fuel r u using?

Postby zorro » Tue Apr 10, 2012 12:14 pm

I've been using united100 for a few months now and am pretty happy with results. I did have to adjust the tune to suit commanding approx 10-15% more fuel.

I had a play with e85 for a couple of weeks and for my driving it doesn't suit me as cents per klm I was about 13c up using e85. Still though it's a great fuel and would reccomend it to anyone who doesn't travel high klms.

Where did you get E85? I thought E85 was only for heavily modified vehicles which could cope with it. I don't think your average car will run on E85.

I was using e85 from united, it's a true 85% blend where Caltex e-flex is a lower blend. Plenty of outlets in Melbourne now.

E85 myths are a bit of a crock to be honest. Methanol will eat fuel lines, ethanol won't. I know plenty of cars running e85 on std fuel systems safely, it's not until you start pushing into more serious applications fuel delivery needs to be looked at.

You will need your car tuned for e85, no ifs or buts. I have 42lb injectors and duty cycle was around 70% with spikes @ wot and the rest of the car is as it left HSV back in 2006. I tuned to lambda 1 at cruise and commanded 0.74 @ wot, the beauty is you can keep throwing fuel and timing into it and keeps making power. The most noticeable is mid range torque and part throttle acceleration.
