Not happy with standard brakes..suggestions?

Postby djanjic69 » Sat Apr 16, 2011 7:22 pm

Hi I have a Lib GT b and the standard brakes are errr below average for a $50k+ car (when new).

So looking for recommendation on how to improve. Neighbour who races tells me to first try Endless pads as a first step...suggestions welcome.

A lot of people on here recommend the Dixcel pads and Dixcel/DBA rotors for better braking performance.

I'm considering the same as it feels as though I'm braking with water-filled brake lines and damp sponges for pads.

A guy at work suggested bleeding & replacing the brake fluid, which I may try first though.

flushing the fluid should be your first step. Then if you are running into fade, look at pads and maybe rotors. The Brembo's are nice bling and do provide an improvement but IMO not sufficient to justify the cost if you are only using the car on the road and not tracking it hard.

Not sure who you're asking there sooobi but I'm just running whatever the stock fluid & pads are. (to the best of my knowledge)

Smythie... I may give that a go in a few weeks. Brembo's aren't worth the cost to me - definitely overkill. Would still consider some better quality pads though... I think Phat or someone had some Dixcels in recently. (can't find the thread though)

Yeah he does sell dixcel pads, he can order them in you just have to send an email.
You would be after the type M pads for front and rears, type Z are more for tracking.

That's the one I was looking for - thanks chaotic. I'll likely be hassling Phat about these and other things in the future but I need to collect a bit more info and ensure I have the funds first.
