VDC????

So I'm a lil bored today.. looking around the Subaru website and reading some of the past news.

They did have a page of all the odd changes for 2008 models;

My version of the GT gets rear air vents and an electronic front passenger seat. I'm not too bothered as I don't really care about the passenger seat up front - it's easier and quicker to move if it's the old manual way, especially if you have company if you know what I mean

And rear air vents? like.. who cares about anyone who sits in the back. I'm sure my umbrella would appreciate some AC at the back.. *laughs*

The one thing I noticed is that they are wacking VDC in a lot of the auto's. I never read too much intro VDC and what it actually does on a Liberty. I know that for comparison sake, if it's traction control - it really helps in a RWD or an FWD car like the Euro where it would slip and slide on the wet roads without traction on - much fun.. kind of... and a bit too dangerous too anyways..

I don't think my GT has VDC.. and also being a Manual it doesn't have VDC if that's correct?

What does VDC do? All wheels spin in AWD as far as I understand.. and the GT already has an LSD or two.. how can VDC be beneficial and yes..

Anyone able to help enlighten me?

Basic traction control cuts engine power if you start wheel spinning.
VDC also uses the brakes to slow individual wheels to help you recover from a skid

That would definately kill the joy factor so in the GT...

Nothing like the sensation and thrill of feeling and knowing that some of your tyres are spinning because they lost a bit of traction somewhere somehow.. and then gaining back control..

I guess that's what our LSD is for xD

VDC is very different from TC in that it uses yaw sensors to detect when the vehicle has not only lost traction, but is beginning to travel in a direction other than that of the tyres (or spin).

I offered to pay to have it fitted to my MY08 GT that I ordered 3 months in advance. I even offered to pay for the old Sat Nav + VDC upgrade and they could keep the Sat Nav.

Next year, vehicles will be required to have stability control to have a 5 star crash rating. That means either Subaru will either have to change their policy of offering this feature on their cheapest car and refusing to fit it to their most expensive .. or be downgraded to 4 stars.

Of course they will go for the former and the resale of non VDC vehicles will reflect this.

On the subject of the seats, how to you go with the headrests?

hmm yaw sensors.. interesting.. I should do a google see if anyone has a write up to learn a bit more..

my head rests feel ok. I never put them up or anything.

my car has a passenger side power seat and rear air vents. Dunno why 3.0RB's have and the GT's don't in the MY07's. Not that it really matters.

I looked and I don't think they'd fit onto a GT-B even if I stole them!

LSD only inthe rear for GT's-GTB, GTB-STi & 3RB

The WRX Impreza STi has LSD in the rear & front.
