Engine light after CAI

Postby hawks123 » Sat Feb 05, 2011 2:41 pm

Hi folks
I just fitted a CAI to my 2.5 GT.
Was all fine for a while until the engine light came om, cruise light started flashing
and car was locked into Sport Mode.
I didn't drive any different than it used to, and after a while the light went off again.
But last night it appeared yet again and is still on.

Anyone else experienced this or have any clue as to what the light would be
coming on for?
If it's broke use a cable tie!

This has happened to me after replacing the air-filter. i panicked for a bit thinking I'd done something serious but after checking all connections and wires around the area I was working it stopped doing it.
I never found out what it was though.
Check around the AFM, theres a few connections and couplings that could've come loose while you were in there.

Just take it to a subaru and get them to clear the CEL code, as no doubt when change to CAI it produce the code.

I took out my air intake box one day (which included the little sensor located on top of the box) due to a problem with my HID's with a faulty wire (which leo replaced under warranty 8) )
I was getting the CEL bullshit and lights everywhere, I went through a few steps thanks to Leo (hks180) and Michael(PHAT GT) on the phone (another reason why you should make friends with these guys if you don't know anyone that is knowledgeable about Subies :D )

I ended up taking all of the airbox stuff out, including unplugging the wire to the airbox sensor, and also doing an ECU reset by leaving the battery unplugged for 15 minutes and hitting the brake a few times.
It fixed the problem in the end for me, but of course with a CAI it's something the ECU is probably not used to, so if you can try what I have tried and it still doesn't work, do what Gambit has said.

Good luck.

The CEL code will tell you exactly what is giving you the error. What confused me when this happened was the Cruise light pulsing.
I had never seen this before and know nothing about the cruise control system so it was a little alarming.

I had a look under the bonnet, all seemed fine.
Although i don't understand why the light would then turn off after a while.
I was thinking that maybe the different intake system increases the emissions coming out the exhaust, therfore
causing the light to turn on?

Just buy a cable and read the code yourself.

$200 cable is the cheapest insurance you'll ever buy.
