Dave,
as long as you don't change the actual pipe diameter that the MAF sits in, why would you need it re-scaled?

i.e you will get a change in airflow (most likely more) but the MAF will measure that change and just reference a different, yet appropriate, load-site

it will still be a 3" pipe but it will just remove all the resonators (like the one right on the throttle body) so it will just be a straight 3"pipe

the chamber near the throttle body is there as an "air tank"
it give a large amount of air right at the throttle body to help improve throttle response.
I would try to incorporate a chamber of some description there for that purpose
even if you step up the pipe size to 4" for the last 300mm before the TB
then use a reducer/ joiner to the TB
that is my plan to tidy the intake between the stock airbox and the TB

thats a good idea, i had an impreza and i did the same to it (removed that tank) and i think it had better throttle response, but that could just be placebo

I've met the owner and seen and heard it run.

Welcome by the way. So you're from the shop in question or have a vested interest?

Over the last 4 years I have fitted 3 different sets of headers to the PRB which runs a Honda S2000 all 3 have responded differently .One set was a total fail . The current set work perfectly and I have watched their development over 5 designs and years to get to where they are now. What amuses me is how can a back yard mechanic muffler shop ever expect to design develop trial bench test a set of headers .There is a science behind headers and its best left to the experts

These are H6 headers have a look at the work and design

or these ? dont get offensive it just a comparison

So you can tell by how a set of headers "look" whether they are any good or not?

I thought that in the real world people would perform comparison tests to determine if one was superior to another, if it all comes down to how they 'look' then that would save alot of time and effort...

I have a vested interest in that I own the workshop and made those headers.
I have a problem with your attitude and posts regarding my business. You have on a few occasions posted remarks about the quality of the work, I am assuming on Tristans car, that comes from my workshop.

I would like you to explain your comments to me and the forum rather than throwing in negative one liners with no explanation. You may live with your mum and work in a government building but I run a small business that supports two seperate families with it's modest income so your comments can damage my reputation. If this is fine with the rest of the forum then I will not return here. If not, I would like you to explain your comments and there basis.

The headers pictured were never meant to appeal to the narcissistic eye, they are just headers made to suit the car as there were no std items available. I doubt there is any gain to be had at all from fabricated EZ30R headers on a std cammed engine. The total lack of any manifolding forced the manufacture of the headers. I consulted a friend who is well respected in the automotive and engine building community and he advised me on primary length of the headers according to engine analyser pro. I could not achieve the length it suggested would be optimal as it was too long to fit the chassis. The extractors did not leak, the pipes were tig welded and filled on the mandrel joins and mig welded to the flanges and collector. They were very noisy, long runner headers are noisy. The exhaust was then changed multiple times in Sydney in an attempt pass emissions compliance, I have no idea what was done to it apart from extra cats added.

The idea that the headers pictured above are superior to others is laughable. They are just factory equivalents made in SS in a chinese factory and then polished. The fact is that the factory headers are perfectly fine and suited to the cams, that's why no significant power increase is available from the engine from std. The factory cats are in fact the biggest restriction in any Gen 4 exhaust system.

:? why manufacturer something that you know will have no gain I dont get it quote: I doubt there is any gain to be had at all so why bother ??? Fair call you run a small business but wacking something together just because someone wants it isn't very professional and not doing you self or you business any good who ever you are. Some times its better to walk away

L O'O' Ks that way  What are you making you assumptions do you run these?

your Engrish needs some work...
Where have I made any assumptions?
Ironically you is you who have made some extremely ignorant and incorrect assumptions.
You have no idea about the person who made the headers, their experience, or the criteria under which they were made.
1) What if there was no aftermarket extractors available at the time?
2) What if the customer couldn't afford a set of shiny brand name extractors and asked for a set to be done on the cheap?
2) how do you KNOW that the headers made by Al WON'T work just as well as the big $$$ polished ones? - YOU DON'T!
But hey, if it doesn't have HKS or Apex'i etc stamped somewhere for everyone to see and it's not shiny and bling it can't possibly work now can it...
So easy to talk trash, so much harder to back it up with facts.

Your complete ignorance is only highlighted by the poorly thought out response here;

Seriously...When you were bashing away on the keyboard not 'getting it', you must have missed this;
They are just headers made to suit the car as there were no std items available

Kind of answers the question in my eyes.
Stock EZ30 engine, stock ECU, stock intake manifold and STOCK cams - that was the context in which the comment was made, kind of a big point to omit - how much benefit do you think whacking a set of extractors on will have???
Al is extremely professional, and one of the best Subaru minds in Australia with years and years of experience with modifying them - all you can dribble on about is your VTEC YO honda 4 banger, talk about apples and oranges.
For the record, I have never met Al, I am in SA and he's in QLD - so I'm not sticking up for my buddy, I just know how good his work is.

Would have been cheaper to put another sticker on the car

While you at it could you suggest where I could pick up a set of headers for my 360 :D seem you know everything about Subarus . Prefer not to have shiny ones

Do you know anything about the shiny header manufacturer 'NOT'

Buddah, no offense, but you do have a bit of trouble comprehending what is being stated.

Those headers are on an EZ30R in a 97 Liberty. It was the first conversion of it's kind apart from Perrin's turbo car and the Gen 2 H6 turbo that I helped build before the perrin car.
The engine had no exhaust on it when we got it, if it did I would have gladly used it as the std pipes are very good. The next NA H6 conversion we did I managed to source a set of std pipes from a wrecker so I used them and chopped them behind the collector. Both these cars were run by Vipec V88 ecu's so AF sensor positioning was not an issue.

Your assumptions of my skills in fabricating and what my business can do and has achieved is misinformed at best.
