generic o2 sensor?

Postby zorbaru » Thu Feb 03, 2011 1:25 pm

Hi all,

i need to replace the o2 sensor in my MY05 GT and everywhere i look it is going to cost me about $500. Is there anyone that makes non genuine ones. all i can find in parts shops is up to my03...

i can get one from cyberspaceautos on ebay for $300, has anyone dealt with them?

i have tried taking them out and cleaning them, then i unplugged the battery for about 20mins to reset the computer but i still have check engine light. i have had it confirmed that it is o2 sensor by s&j in adelaide.

go to your local Automotive Service Solutions store
http://www.efi.com.au/
get a Bosch sensor. they have specific fitment for various models of Subaru
anywhere from $120 to $200 depending on model

From my research there is no generic O2 sensor for the front one.

i have seen used downpipes for sale on yahoo auctions cheap enough.

something like that:

Might be a cheaper alternative to totally new sensor?

Are they just a generic 3 or 4 wire Narrowband (0-1v) o2 Sensor?

If so, the last one i got from ASS cost me $127 and that had 300mm of wiring on it

I tried a generic 4 wire O2 sensor, and can speak from experience they DON'T work. The ecu threw up a code pretty much straight after fitment p0134, no comunication from front O2 sensor. As painful as it is, it looks like the genuine (read: stupidly expensive) sensor is the only way to go :|

ahh, oh
the one at the turbo is the front sensor.
it outputs a waveform signal to the ECU

the rear one is the generic 0-1v narrowband sensor

well i bit the bullet and just called s&j to get it done for $500. they couldnt fit me in so i rang a subaru dealer who could get me in that afternoon.

so when i got there they started workign and the sales guy says to me. "i just brought up the history of the car and that shows that we replaced that sensor in april 09."(which must have been the previous owner cos this was just before i bought it) "so this can be replaced under warranty."

ended up costing me nothing.

such a good day.

I've had mine replaced under parts warranty seven times already :P plus the initial cost of it... so a total of 8.
