18 x 7.5 with +35 (07GTb)

Hi all,

From reading I know +35 is not optimal, but is it a possibility at all? I've found some rims I've liked since they came out (2004) that are now discontinued.
They are at what I would consider a great price, but the fitment is the worry.

Should I wait (and probably pay more) for +48, which I know they also come in?

The lower offset means they sit further out towards to guard don't they?

Second question is does a 225 tyre sit happily on a 7.0" and a 7.5" rim?

225/40 and /45 depending on the manufacturer are best on 7.5" but will fit on 7"

For 18x7.5 +35, have a look at blacktop's car - he has 18x8.5 +38's and they fit (I think he has rolled the guards) with 225/40R18's

Yeah after looking at Blacktops setup I'm more optimistic. I'm not lowered and unlikely to be anytime soon until I move house, so it could be a goer.

Though looking through the walkthrough below it's a good 10mm outside of the suggested range.

yeah just to confirm your new wheels will stick out 10mm LESS than mine. your offset is lower (stick out more) but they are also an inch skinnier so the result is 10mm less.

my guards are still untouched and still stock height, but in the pics in the offset thread i still had my towbar attached which weighed 35kg.

How much effect does a lower than optimum offset have on wheel bearings and steering components?

Just out of interest has anyone seen these fitted to a Libert or Legacy? I couldn't find any pics.

For anyone else that looks up this thread I ran the details through a calculator, and it spat out:

Inner clearance: 4mm MORE
Outer postition: EXTEND an extra 16mm

I think I'll likely get them, if I still can.

Std offset is 55mm on libs. going to 35 will be 20mm less and based on experience with other cars, you will probably suffer from tramlining, and a loss of directional stability, without worrying about any other effects like rubbing. I have Gmax 18x7.5s (48 offset) on my gt, and I think I can sometimes feel the lower offset in the way it tracks, but its not enough to worry me. I know that in a Porsche 928, changing from std offset at the front of 65mm to 52.3mm (1/2" less) makes them quite unpleasant to drive.

If it's tramlining it's probably the tyres and wheel alignment.

Changing the offset changes the scrub radius (diff between tyre centre line, and where the wheel pivot centre meets the ground). If the car is designed with negative scrub radius (wheel centre inboard of pivot centre), reducing it will make them directionally unstable, and prone to tramlining. Check out some stuff here, including claim that changing track on some vehicles may be illegal in Vic :-
