Liberty Exiga MY10 Sat Nav Lockout - Need a Hack

Postby Tristan.baker » Thu Jan 27, 2011 3:30 pm

Hi,

Im new to this thread and am enjoying reading everyone elses posts.
As the subject suggests, I have a Liberty Exiga MY10 with a mcintosh headunit - sat nav, etc.
Since this is a very new model, and apparently generally sold to 'soccer mums' (i'm mockingly told..) there isn't much info out there.
I have 2 issues i want solved with the Head unit.

1. I NEED a hack for the Sat Nav / head unit operation. Whenever the car is moving (not hand brake controlled, but wheels rolling) it locks out most of the Sat nav options, bluetooth phone, etc. I need a hack for this. Badly. It's painful to have to come to a complete stop to do so many little things, like anyhting to do with the Sat Nav.

2. The Guys at Tom Kerr Subaru installed the 'ipod connection kit'. Now, the exiga doesn't officially have an ipod kit. Im told that they installed the one for the outback, which apparently uses the same head deck as the Exiga.
All works fine except the track up and down buttons do nothing!!!
Subaru Aus is no help, they say it wasn't made for this car, so there is no support.
Does anyone have an ipod kit installed in an Exiga?

If anyone out there has any thoughts on these 2 subjects, i would love to hear them.
Thanks,
Tristan

I pulled out my headunit last night and found out that it's a Kenwwod Stereo.
see pics..

I did a lot of testing to find this 'e-brake' earthing i read about, but had no luck.
Perhaps im having no success do to the wire im using, and the fact that im not sure where im wiring it to.
Garbo said he had wires?
Any help?

Hey mate, firstly, nice keyboard. Secondly, the wires that I have made up for my car (which I haven't tested as yet, hopefully this weekend) are basically a plug on one end that fits into the green plug on the back of the Mac head unit, and hopefully fits the pin, in the liberty. The other end has a ring connector soldered on (or a fork type connector, depending on which works better) to fit the earth point on the head unit chassis. I'll take a pic and upload later tonight.

Perhaps google the model number of the head unit to find some tech specs as I am not sure what the answer is regarding the grounding.

That unit looks like the sat nav unit from the Impreza to me...

Final Cut I assume? :)

It looks like the same Head Unit used in the Imprezza - there is a hack out there somewhere for that model, I found it for my boss.

I'll see if I can find it again!

edit: Does this help?

Hey all,

Success!! I re-wired wire 4 from the 24 bus connector to 'ground' and it all worked!
I no longer have a lock-out when the car is moving.
Brilliant!!
Thanks for everyones help.

Be glad you're not trying to bypass the lockout on a USA sourced Alpine headunit... footbrake, handbrake up, handbrake down, handbrake up, release footbrake...

Just picked up and Exiga for my 'soccer mum' wife - great car.

I'd like to run this mod also - anyone know where I can find some instructions for removing the Head Unit?
