Any suggeations as to where I can get one (not JDM or from Subaru!)

Recyclers? Not sure about Melbourne, but I usually go to this place: http://www.justjap.com.au. Doesn't hurt to ask.

if a late 04 is the same as 05 i have one, manual, 2ltr, turbo

Is there something wrong with your present ECU?
