How to get a fast start in an auto GT

OK...so this is a bit of stupid question but I haven't had much success and admittedly have been a little conservative with what I've tried.

So the $64,000 question is what's the best technique in an auto GT to beat that VE Commodore when the lights turn green? I almost got beaten by an NA Mazda 6 the other day...could have been embarassing if the sprint was only for 50 metres. After that my turbo wound up and he ran out of puff.

BTW. I'm quite attached to my transmission so don't want to blow it up and I used to own a manual so no auto jokes please .

hey sheik? I'm no expert with launching a car properly nor am i a professional driver? .....but have you tried the handbrake start? handbrake up with your hand on it....and foot on accelerator with partial throttle just enough to bite that the car nudges forward * like a dog on a leach that wants to chase another bitch * so once it goes green you release the handbrake and pedal to the floor scenario?

dont know if everyone else will agree with me on this...i'm sure there's a better way....but hey? thats my 5 cents worth....enjoi!

Are you looking to spend any money? Throttle controller & tune are a good complement in getting good starts (along with dump pipe, TBE, and intake for helping the flow of things).

Right foot on sccerator up to 2500ish rpm
(lights go green)
Let go of left foot

Stomp it, go fully sik and then when the red and blue lights start flashing suck it up and get ready for your car to be impounded.

Street racing is bad.

This is the gentlest and quickest way to launch an auto car fast. There aren't tremendous shock loads being belted through the drivetrain as you would have in a manual, the turbo is spooled up making useable boost. Unless you "stall it up" for 15-30 seconds at a time you won't hurt anything.

On a more conservative tone to Kev's politician's lemming propaganda, don't go over the top with any race - like anything else you do in your car, drive to the conditions but not over them

In VIC at least they can get you under the anti hoon laws for anything that resembles not driving like a grandma when you are on your P's. So they could easily get you for taking off fast at the lights.

I could be wrong but in NSW I think they can only get you if you have "sustained loss of traction", as long as you keep within the other laws (speed, in your lane etc)

IIRC it's called an "unnecessary display of speed" or something. They can also do you for undue noise.

If you take of from the lights on your own you should be ok, but with another car could be another story.

You can't get done for speed if you only get up to 60km/hr. You can't get done for racing as it has to be dangerous.

But you can get done for "Start/drive vehicle causing unnecessary noise" - at $258 and 3 points is it worth it?

Plus i'm sure the defect book will come out and more time and money will be wasted to get the defects cleared.

this can be applied at the track as well as street:
Not sure about 2.5 GTs but in the MY04-06 the factory stall converter is 3200 rpm stall speed, that means you don't get full lockup of torque converter till that rpm. Therefore:
Left foot on brake HARD.
accelerate to ~3000 rpm, wait about 2-3 sec at least while boost builds
Release left foot,
Floor right foot
Steer it where you want and hang on
